Mercedes-Benz has announced a delivery delay

The shortage of computer chips has led to a decline in vehicle production worldwide. This has mostly affected large manufacturers such as VW, Ford and GM, which will significantly reduce production and even suspend it in some plants. Now Mercedes-Benz has also announced that there could be a delay in delivery.

In an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Daimler CEO Ola Kallenius said:

“Demand is huge at Mercedes-Benz and at the same time there are unfortunately severe limitations. For some models the waiting times are longer than we would like, in some cases over a year.”

Although some rumors said that Mercedes would stop producing cars with V8 engines due to delivery problems, the company said that was not the reason. According to Philipp Scheimer, the demand for V8 engines still exists, so they will be producing them for at least another decade.

The same situation has recently hit Toyota. Therefore, the company stated:

“Due to Covid-19 and unexpected events with our supply chain, Toyota is experiencing additional shortages that will affect production at most of our North American plants. While the situation remains fluid and complex, our manufacturing and supply chain teams have worked diligently to develop countermeasures to minimize the impact on production. ”
