1968 Chevrolet Corvette sold for $27,211

In 1953, Chevrolet introduced the first mass-produced American sports car in the post-war period, the Chevrolet Corvette. So far, eight generations of this model have been produced, each offered as a coupe and a roadster. Some of them have been transformed over time into elegant shooting brakes, and this one, a 1968 Chevrolet Corvette, was sold at auction a few days ago for USD $27,211.

This Chevrolet Corvette is powered by a 572ci 9.4L General Motors ZZ572 V8 engine with 707 hp (520 kW) and 679 lb-ft (921 Nm) of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Hurst-shifted Richmond Gear five-speed manual transmission with a Ram Clutches Powergrip HD clutch set. It’s mounted on Series 32 Keystone 15″ wheels wrapped in 245/60 front and 295/50 rear BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires.

The car is finished in metallic maroon and underwent a Sportwagon conversion which included the installation of a removable roof panel as well as rear fender flares and a high-rise cowl-induction hood, dual fixed headlamps, front fender vents, push-button door handles, chrome ribbed side-exit exhaust pipe covers, a short antenna, a chrome split rear bumper, and 572 badging.

Inside, the seats are trimmed in black vinyl that also covers the door panels and dash, while the carpets are covered with embroidered floor mats. In front of the driver is a three-spoke steering wheel behind which is hidden a five-digit odometer showing 85,454 miles.

The car is offered with build records, parts literature, period publications, and a clean New Jersey title.
