The Ferrari F40 is considered an icon of the automotive industry and one of the manufacturer’s most important cars. It was produced between 1987 and 1992, and 1,315 units of this car left the production line. One of them, a 1988 Ferrari F40, is up for sale.
It was built as Enzo Ferrari’s desire to leave a legacy in his last sports car produced exclusively for road use. “The F40 is for the most enthusiastic of our owners who want nothing but sheer performance. It isn’t a laboratory for the future. It is not Star Wars. And it wasn’t created because Porsche built the 959. It would have happened anyway,” said Enzo Ferrari.
Under the hood is a 2.9 L twin-turbocharged V8 engine with 471 hp (352 kW) and 426 lb-ft (577 Nm) of torque @ 4,000 rpm. It reaches 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds with a top speed of 201 mph (324 kph). It was the first production car that could go over 200 mph. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The car is in excellent condition with only 30,243 kilometers on the odometer. It has been properly maintained, as shown by the report of Kroymans Ferrari, the official representative of Ferrari in the Netherlands, which states: “that the car is in very nice condition and well mantianed…the car is accident-free and that we believed the car is still in its original paint. (Only the front bonnet is inconclusive)”.
This example is one of the first ever produced (27th), and the first 50, which are the most desirable to collectors, were built without catalytic converters or adjustable suspension. It was bought new by Carlo Sama from Ravenna from Motor S.p.a. where it remained until 1997 when it was sold to the Netherlands. It has a Ferrari Classiche certificate, which confirms that it retains its original chassis, body, engine and gearbox. The last inspection was in September 2022.
The car comes with the original owners manual, original service book, and tool kit. Price upon request.
