Ford has unveiled the Puma WRC model, which will replace the Fiesta WRC in the Rally1 category in the 2022 World Rally Championship season. It is a hybrid car equipped with a 3.9kWh plug in hybrid battery whose 25 minute charge is enough for the vehicle to cover the section. Recently, Hyundai also introduced its new i20 N WRC model for the upcoming season.
The Ford Puma WRC is powered by an EcoBoost 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbo engine with 380 hp (279 kW) and an electric motor with 136 hp (100 kW). The engine is paired with a five-speed semi-automatic transmission that will transmit power to all wheels. Speaking about electrification, Ford Performance Director Mark Rushbrook reaffirmed Ford’s commitment to an electrified future and innovation in the automotive industry, and M-Sport boss Malcom Wilson said the introduction of hybrids in the WRC is the greatest achievement to date.
The new season of the World Rally Championship starts on January 20 in Monte Carlo. Drivers of the Ford M-Sport World Rally Team in the 2022 season will be: Craig Breen / Paul Nagle, Adrien Fourmaux / Alexandre Coria, Gus Greensmith / Jonas Andersson and Sebastien Loeb / Isabelle Galmiche.
