Although the current WEC season is underway, some teams are preparing for the next one. Thus, Cadillac announced the design of a new race car with which it will compete in the IMSA championship, in the LMDh class, from next season, and it is the Project GTP Hypercar.
The car is currently in the testing phase and will have its premiere at the 24 Hours Daytone IMSA Championship race in January 2023. The company has confirmed that the hybrid GTP Hypercar car will also take part in the WEC 24 Hours of Le Mans championship next year.
It is known that the Project GTP Hypercar, whose chassis was developed by Dallara, will be powered by a hybrid drivetrain with a 5.5-liter V8 engine. Cadillac expects that the car, whose body detail design is reminiscent of passenger cars, will be a serious opponent in the first season.
Cadillac will not be the only company to announce its participation in endurance races in the LMDh class. Porsche has also prepared its LMDh race car. Porsche LMDh is powered by a turbocharged V8 engine combined with an electric motor with a total power of 670 hp (493 kW), because according to current regulations, the car’s power must not exceed 680 hp (500 kW).
