As previously announced, Volvo has officially launched its new electric car, the Volvo ES90. With this model, the Swedish manufacturer wants to return to the market race with models like the BMW i5 and Mercedes-Benz EQE.
The ES90 is built on the SPA2 platform with 800-volt technology, and equipped with advanced air suspension and an active chassis that ensure ultimate comfort while driving. Its design is reminiscent of the Polestar 2, with a roofline that gently slides back and merges with the tailgate and C-shaped LED taillights. On the front part are T-shaped daytime running lights.
The interior, which is quieter than ever before, is made of sustainable materials and natural colors, and is inspired by Scandinavian nature. In front of the driver is a 9-inch screen, four-zone climate control, a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins stereo, and a 14.5-inch central touchscreen. It is powered by superfast infotainment processors, provides access to many Google applications and supports the 5G network. The car is equipped with the highest level of safety and uses internal and external sensors. The ES90 is also the most aerodynamic Volvo model with a drag coefficient of 0.25.
The ES90 also has a dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin configuration that can process over 500 trillion operations per second. It also allows for over-the-air upgrades, which will improve the car’s capabilities over time.
When it comes to the powertrain, the ES90 will be offered in three variants. The version with a single motor and 329 hp has rear-wheel drive. It is equipped with a 92.0 kWh (88.0 kWh usable) battery pack that provides a range of 400 miles. The version with two motors has 442 horsepower, has a larger battery pack and range of 435 miles.
The most powerful version is the ES90 Twin Motor Performance, powered by two electric motors with a total output of 670 hp, has a 106 kWh battery pack and a range of 700 km (435 miles). The battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent capacity in about 20 minutes thanks to a fast charger. It reaches 62 mph in 4 seconds with a top speed of 112 mph.
