2012 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport ‘Wei Long’ is up for auction

Between 2009 and 2015, Bugatti produced the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport model, the targa top version of the Bugatti Veyron EB. Only 58 examples of this model were produced, and in celebration of the Chinese New Year (Year of the Dragon) Bugatti produced a unique example of this car, the 2012 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport ‘Wei Long’ which is now up for auction.

The car is finished in Porcelain White with brushed aluminum and gloss-black trim elements. In addition to the standard equipment found on every Veyron Grand Sport, this example is equipped with dragon heads carved into porcelain inserts on the oil and fuel filler caps, and special 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels with a diamond finish and red accents.

The beautiful cockpit is covered with Italian Red leather and there are Chinese inscriptions on the headrest. There are also diamond-quilted inserts on the seats and center console, embossed ‘EB’ crests on the seat backs, a body-coloured center console inlay, and swathes of brushed aluminum trim.

Under the hood is a quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine with 987 hp (736 kW) and 922 lb-ft (1,250 Nm) of torque. That is quite enough for the car to accelerate from 0-100km/h (62 mph) in less than 2.7 seconds, 0-200km/h in 7.3 seconds, with a top speed of 407km/h (253mph). Power is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission with paddle shift.

The car is in pretty good condition with only 8,428 km on the odometer. It comes with the original red leather-bound key presentation box, an EEC certificate of conformity, a photocopy of the original Swiss registration, a copy of the Monaco registration card in the seller’s name, UK MOT certificates, one Contrôle Technique certificate from Monaco dated April 2023, the original stamped service book and owner’s operating guide, a battery charger, a Bugatti-branded car cover, and a selection of maintenance invoices.

The auction ends on February 18 and the highest bid at the time of writing was €900,500.

1958 Porsche 356 Emory Special Speedster is for sale

At a time when electric cars are so common on the streets, it’s nice to see old cars, especially collectible ones. Such is the case with this example of Porsche’s first production car, the 1958 Porsche 356 Emory Special Speedster that is up for auction.

This Porsche 356 Emory Special Speedster is powered by a 2.6-liter “Outlaw-4” flat-four (by Jeff Gamroth of Rothsport Racing) with 260 horsepower. The engine is equipped with a sand-cast aluminum case, 6061 billet camshaft housings, Elgin billet camshafts, crankshaft stroke, Rothsport fuel injection with individual throttle bodies, MoTec-managed twin coil-on-plug ignition, and full-flow dry-sump lubrication system with coolers and a remote filter, a Fuelab fuel pressure regulator and gauge, and fiberglass shrouding. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Type 901 five-speed manual transmission. It sits on 16” billet aluminum wheels wrapped in 205/55 Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season tires.

The car was produced in 1958 as a coupe, but was converted to a Speedster more than a decade ago. Three years ago, a two-year rebuild and conversion into the Emory Special began, which included a re-contoured 550 Spyder-inspired nose with a vented oil-cooler grille, flipped decklids, Pre-A-style roll panels and raised wheel arches. It is equipped with raked headlights, a through-hood competition-style fuel filler, “Special” badging, raked beehive taillights, black canvas soft top, custom suspension, PEP adjustable shock absorbers, front and rear sway bars, and a Spyder-style shine- down license plate lamp.

Inside, the fixed-back seats are upholstered in Hydes cognac leather with basket-weave inserts, and leather also covers the door panels and dash. Oatmeal carpets cover the floors, rear shelf, and seatbacks. In front of the driver is a Derrington-style steering wheel and a five-digit odometer showing 694 miles. Additional equipment includes black rubber floor mats, latch-and-link lap belts, an Emory-branded wooden shift knob, door pockets, Classic Retrofit electric air conditioning, and a hidden Bluetooth sound system.

The auction ends on February 9 and the highest bid at the time of writing is $502,000 USD.

1958 Ferrari 250 “Pontoon Fender” Testa Rossa is up for auction

The Testa Rossa was the most successful sports racing car in Ferrari’s illustrious history, securing four World Championships and four overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 1958 to 1962. In 1957, Ferrari, in cooperation with Italian coachbuilder Sergio Scaglietti, began production of 19 special examples of the Ferrari 250 “Pontoon Fender” Testa Rossa. It is an extraordinary collector’s car, and one example of the 1958 Ferrari 250 “Pontoon Fender” Testa Rossa is up for auction.

The development of the Testa Rossa model was gradual, and after a lot of experimentation Ferrari decided on a 3.0-liter “Red Head” engine and a Scaglietti spider body also known as the “Pontoon Fender”. These examples have become among the most famous cars that Ferrari has ever built, and the desire of many collectors.

This example with chassis 0738 TR was ordered in 1958 by Jean-Louis Lacerda Soares of Sao Paolo through the Official Central and South American Ferrari Concessionaire Carlos Kauffman in Caracas. As a member of the Scuderia Lagartix team, he used the car in races, and in two years he achieved multiple victories and half-a-dozen podium finishes.

In 1961, the car was bought by Giorgio Moroni, who sent it to Italy, where a new 250 GTO-style body was created by Piero Drogo. After that, in 1965, Moroni sold the car to Claudio Klabin, who continued to use it in races. Until 2010, when it stopped being used in vantage races, the car changed several more owners.

In 2013, the car was sent for a full restoration where it was restored to its original body. The work was done by Ferrari Classiche, which issued its all-important Red Book, confirming that this is one of the few remaining examples that has retained both its original engine and gearbox. The restoration cost more than 650,000 euros.

Many collectors and car enthusiasts consider the Ferrari 250 “Pontoon Fender” Testa Rossa to be the ultimate Ferrari. This is an ideal and rare opportunity that collectors should not miss.

The auction will take place on February 21-23, 2024.
