It’s been half a century since Mercedes legendary model won the Spa-Francorchamp 24-hour race. In his honor, Mercedes-AMG has produced three unique models called 50 Years Legend of Spa.
Back in 1971, Mercedes won the race with the Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.8 AMG. In his honor, the company presented the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3, the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT3 and the current version of the Mercedes-AMG GT3.
All models are painted red with stickers used on the 1971 Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.8 AMG. The number 50 on the door represents the anniversary, instead of the number 35 found on the original. Inside, there are many carbon details and an instrument panel with the original signature of AMG founder Hans Werner.
Mercedes models are powered by a 6.3-liter V8 engine with 650 hp and have a new exhaust system, while other specifications have remained unchanged.
A public presentation will be held at this year’s race. Speaking of price, the most expensive is the SLS AMG GT3 and it costs $ 771,000 (650,000 euros). The current version of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 is slightly cheaper and costs around $ 682,000 (575,000 euros), while the cheapest 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT3 is priced at around $ 593,000 (500,000 euros).
