2024 Changan Hunter

Chinese state-owned automobile manufacturer Changan has revealed its new vehicle, the Changan Hunter. It is the first ever car with extended range technology (EREV).

Hunter is 5,380 mm long and has a wheelbase of 3,180 millimeters, and customers can choose an extended version with a double cab, which also brings a longer cargo space. This means a longer overall vehicle length (5,630 mm) and a longer wheelbase of 3,430 mm. On the other hand, Changan Hunter still has a small payload for this type of car, only 495 kilograms.

The vehicle will be powered by a 2.0L turbo gasoline engine combined with an electric motor with a total power of 177 hp (132 kW), with rear-wheel drive. The version with AWD will be powered by a 2.0L turbo petrol in combination with two electric motors with a total power of 190 hp (142 kW).

Both versions are equipped with a 31.18 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery that enables a range of 180 kilometers, CLTC. Thanks to extended-range technology, the gasoline engine produces electricity for the electric motors, which is stored in the battery via a generator, providing a range of 1,031 kilometers. The company claims that regardless of the AWD or RWD version, the range is the same.

When it comes to price, the single-engine Hunter Warrior Edition Deluxe starts at 139,900 yuan ($19,700), while the AWD version costs 149,900 yuan ($21,090).

CF701 Concept

China’s oldest state-owned automobile manufacturer, Chang’an Automobile, has unveiled its new concept, the CF701. Designed as an SUV with a rear end reminiscent of a pickup truck.

This car is 5000mm long, 1970mm wide, 1630mm high, with a 3100mm wheelbase, enough to accommodate five passengers, and is built on a smart vehicle platform. A simple minimalist design, reminiscent of the Tesla Cybertruck, extends throughout the car. The front fascia with C-shaped LED daytime running lights, D-shaped LED lights located on the front bumper, rectangular arches and cameras replacing the side mirrors are just some of the design solutions. The SUV can be transformed into a pickup as the rear glass panel is pulled up and over the glass roof.

The interior of the concept is reminiscent of Tesla cars. A modern cabin with a centrally located infotainment screen, a simple dashboard, a head-up display and a steering wheel with a flat bottom are some of the equipment that comes with this electric car.

2024 Avatr 12

Avatr 12 is a new electric car with which the Chinese company Avatr Technology wants to attack the European market and threaten the position held by Mercedes’ EQE sedans and BMW i5. It is an electric premium sedan that was created in cooperation with Changan Automobile, CATL and Huawei, and it is designed to go straight into the mid- and large-size segment.

This interesting coupe-limousine is 5020 mm long, 1999 mm wide and, depending on the air suspension, 1450-1460 mm high, while the wheelbase is 3020 mm. Built on the EP1 platform, the Avatr 12 will be offered with one or two electric motors. The single-engine Avatr 12 is powered by an electric unit mounted on the rear axle that develops 313 hp (230 kW). The two engine version comes with all-wheel drive and a total power of 578 hp (425 kW). The top speed is 200 km/h, and the electric motors are supplied by Huawei. It is equipped with a lithium-ion battery manufactured by CATL, with a capacity of 90.4 kWh for the base model and 116.8 kWh for the models with two motors.

When it comes to design, split LED lights surround the front grille, giving it an aggressive look. An elegant roofline, made entirely of glass, leads to a massive coupe section with narrow horizontal LED lights. Buyers will be able to choose between four different 20-inch and 21-inch wheel designs, and will also be able to spec their cars with cameras instead of exterior mirrors.

Before reaching the European market, the Avatr 12 will have a serious competitor in the domestic Chinese market, and that is the Nio ET7. Whether it will be able to cope with the competition remains to be seen, but if we consider that the previous model, the Avatr 11, did not achieve the expected results (from December 2022, only 1,753 were sold), will the Avatr 12 be another failed attempt!?
