After Aston Martin announced its return to the WEC (World Endurance Championship) this summer, another manufacturer is entering one of the toughest competitions in the world. According to the latest information, Genesis is developing the GMR-001 LMDh prototype that will compete from 2026.

Genesis has not yet revealed the engine configuration that will power the GMR-001 prototype, but they have revealed that they have chosen the French company Oreca for the carbon chassis, out of four possible manufacturers. According to the current regulations, all LMDh class prototypes have an identical gearbox (X-Trac) and components that make up the hybrid system (Williams batteries and Bosch electric motor).

Cyril Abiteboul, who has long been at the head of the Renault F1 team, has been chosen as the boss of the newly founded Genesis Magma Racing team, and for now it is known that the driver lineup will include three-time Le Mans winner André Lotterer and Pipo Derrani, who won the GTP class title in the IMSA championship last season.

Genesis plans to enter the North American IMSA Endurance Championship in 2027.
