Xiaomi SU7 overtook Tesla Model 3 in sales in China

Since it appeared on the market in early 2024, no one could have predicted that Xiaomi’s first car would experience such success. In just eight months since its debut, Xiaomi has shipped more than 130,000 SU7s, and in December it managed to outsell the Tesla Model 3.

Xiaomi currently offers several versions of this model, and all of them achieve outstanding sales results. That’s big for a company whose primary market is China, home of the biggest EV manufacturers. So, why are buyers more likely to opt for the SU7 than the Tesla Model 3?

The biggest difference between these two models is the price. With a starting price of 26,710 euros for the Standard version, the SU7 beats Tesla’s Model 3 by almost 10 percent, as it costs at least 29,000 euros. Also, Tesla recently increased the prices of all versions of the Model 3 in China, and with the growing competition from domestic manufacturers, this represents a rather big challenge for Tesla’s dominance in the Chinese market.

Chinese manufacturers think differently. They listen more to the needs of local buyers , offering more attractive cars at competitive prices and putting a lot of pressure on international brands. This will become even more evident when the Xiaomi YU7 hits the market, which will happen in the summer of this year.

Tesla is developing a new car

Tesla Model Q is a new car from the American manufacturer that should hit the market in the middle of next year. It will be smaller than the Model 3 but also affordable to a larger number of buyers with a price tag of less than $30,000.

Tesla is still considered a leader when it comes to premium all-electric cars, but the price of EVs is a big problem that plagues all manufacturers. Currently, demand for EVs is declining and buyers are increasingly opting for cars with combustion engines or hybrids.

The Model Q will be 3,988 mm long and 30 percent lighter than the Model 3. This means that it will be cheaper to produce but also more competitive in the market. It will be equipped with lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries with a capacity of 53 and 75 kWh, which will provide a range of up to 500 kilometers. Also, buyers will be able to choose versions with RWD or AWD, and at the beginning of the year it was stated that it could have an HW5 FSD computer for autonomous driving with a modern 3 nm processor.

Tesla’s biggest competitors are Chinese manufacturers, so the new Model Q will be priced lower in the country (around $19,280) to compete with them. It will be manufactured at the Gigafactory in Texas, and there is a possibility that it will also be manufactured at Tesla’s facility in China.

2025 Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD with 436-mile range

Tesla has just unveiled its new Model 3, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive. It has a range of 436 miles (702 km), and deliveries will begin in November.

Currently, it is not known what battery this car will use, but some believe it is the same (75kWh battery) used in the Model Y Long Range Rear Wheel Drive that hit the market earlier. What we know for now is that this version consumes only 12.5 kWh of energy per 100 kilometers, which ranks it among very economical cars. The company claims that this is the most efficient electric car currently on the European market.

The new version of the Tesla Model 3 has acoustic glass, improved suspension and seals, and upgraded dampening. In the cabin, the front and rear seats come with a heating function, and there’s also an 8.0-inch screen for rear-seat passengers to enjoy.

When it comes to price, in Germany the Tesla Model 3 Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive costs €44,990.
