Nigel Mansell is one of the best British Formula One drivers of all time with 31 victories, only Lewis Hamilton is more successful with 103 victories. He competed in Formula 1 from 1980 to 1992, before moving to the CART Indy Car World Series. He stayed there for two years and won the title in his debut season in 1993. Mansell’s title winning car, the Lola T93/00, recently sold for $995,000.
The Lola T93/00 is powered by a Ford-Cosworth XB 2.65 L V8 engine with 850 hp (630 kW). The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. In 1993, Mansell had five wins and three pole positions.
The highest bid at the auction was offered by McLaren boss Zak Brown, which further expanded his fantastic collection. He said that he finally bought the car that he had been dreaming about for five years. He also said that he will transport the car to Great Britain where his rich collection is located. In addition to the new car, in his collection Brown owns cars such as the McLaren MP4/6, which belonged to the legendary Ayrton Senna, and the Williams FW11, which was also driven by Mansell.
“I have all my race cars up at my race shop in Wakefield, that’s where I keep my race cars, and then my road cars, I keep a few at the house and the others at Dunsfold,” said Brown.
