45 years of Porsche 928 with V8 engine

It has been 45 years since Porsche premiered its 928 model. It was in Geneva in 1977, when the world witnessed the birth of the first luxury GT under the Porsche cap, which brought something different from the Porsche 911.

The first-generation Porsche 928 is powered by a front-mounted 4.5-liter V8 engine with 237 hp (177 kW) and 268 lb-ft (363 Nm) of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.

It is less well known that Ferdinand Piëch then advocated a V10 engine based on two of Audi’s five-cylinder engines. The car was produced until 1995. The latest generation Porsche 928 is powered by a 5.4 liter V8 engine with 345 hp (257 kW) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. It is mounted on 17-inch wheels wrapped in 225-45-17 (front) and 255-40-17 (rear) tires.

After production of the 928 model ended, the Stuttgart based company no longer produced V8-powered cars until the first-generation Cayenne in 2003.

Porsche will be offering V8 engines for a while, and the chances of getting a successor to the 928 are minimal.

New equipment package for the first generation Porsche Cayenne

Porsche introduced its first SUV at the turn of the century. Two decades later, the Porsche Classic has prepared a special equipment package for the first generation Cayenne.

And while traditionalists were angry at the moves by Porsche officials, they probably didn’t know that the Cayenne was the model that saved the famous German car company and allowed it to continue producing its famous sports models. In this way, Porsche wants to thank customers for the 275,000 Cayennes sold in the last ten years, most of which are still being driven.

According to published photos, the equipment package includes luggage compartment trays, floor mats, wheelsets, roof baskets, mud flaps, fuel canisters, hook, reinforced engine and suspension protection, larger rims with off-road tires, and will soon offer several applications for decorating / body personification.

Accessories will be in the Porsche Classic catalog when its testing is completed. At Porsche, they are convinced that many owners will like the idea of owning a slightly different and “adventurous” Cayenne.
