Lexus is setting a new benchmark in battery electric luxury SUVs with the global unveiling of its enhanced RZ model range. Poised for European launch in autumn 2025, the updated RZ family introduces sweeping technological and performance advancements while doubling down on comfort, control, and environmental responsibility.

Originally launched in 2023 as Lexus’ first model built on a dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) platform, the RZ now receives a substantial upgrade. At the heart of this transformation is a reimagined powertrain, improved battery capacity, faster charging, and Lexus’ groundbreaking steer-by-wire system—a first for the brand.

Precision Engineering Meets Electrifying Performance

The 2025 RZ lineup is anchored by three powertrain variants: the RZ 350e with 224 hp (165 kW), the RZ 500e with 380 hp (280 kW), and the newly introduced performance flagship, the RZ 550e F SPORT, boasting 408 hp (300 kW). Central to this evolution is a revised lithium-ion battery, now at 77.0 kWh, paired with an upgraded eAxle motor for enhanced output and efficiency. The changes yield up to 100 km more range, thanks to reduced power losses and refined control systems.

Lexus has also doubled the towing capacity of its all-wheel drive variant to 1,500 kg, further cementing its practical appeal.

Charging times see a notable improvement, too. With a new 22 kW AC onboard charger and a battery pre-conditioning system that optimizes temperatures before charging begins, Lexus estimates a 30-minute reduction in charging time, even in colder climates.

Steer-by-Wire: A New Driving Era

Arguably the most radical innovation is Lexus’ first application of steer-by-wire technology. Abandoning the mechanical link between steering wheel and wheels, the system delivers precision feedback via electric signals, eliminating unwanted vibrations and drastically improving responsiveness.

The redesigned, rectangular-shaped steering wheel, featuring curved side grips, enhances visibility and cabin space while enabling 200 degrees of lock-to-lock steering control—making city driving, highway cruising, and mountain twisties smoother than ever.

F SPORT: Performance, Redefined

The spotlight of this refresh shines on the all-new RZ 550e F SPORT, the sportiest and most powerful RZ to date. Engineered for dynamic performance, it introduces Interactive Manual Drive—an industry-first for Lexus. This virtual gear-shifting system simulates an eight-speed manual transmission using paddle shifters, enhanced by engine sound emulation and a real-time rev limiter for a visceral connection between driver and machine.

The F SPORT also receives exclusive tuning of its dampers and springs for sharper handling. Aerodynamic enhancements—such as brake ducts, spoilers, and unique 20-inch aero wheels—add both visual aggression and efficiency. The new Neutrino Grey finish, contrasted with black trim, underlines its performance DNA.

Inside, the F SPORT cabin features a refined mix of black and dark grey with blue accents, F SPORT scuff plates, a microgeometric trim pattern, and supportive front sport seats crafted with integrated foaming technology for improved body hold.

Luxury with Purpose

Lexus continues to balance innovation with sustainability. The RZ’s cabin incorporates laser-etched Ultrasuede made from 30% plant-based materials and new ambient lighting that shifts dynamically to evoke natural light transitions. A new panoramic roof features a dimming function to maintain cabin comfort and reduce reflections—integrated seamlessly with an electronic rear-view mirror.

Acoustic serenity remains a Lexus hallmark, now bolstered by enhanced sound insulation, floor silencers, and vibration damping to ensure a whisper-quiet ride.

With its Lexus Electrified strategy—rooted in the brand’s pioneering RX 400h hybrid debut in 2005—Lexus is steering toward a carbon-neutral future. The expanded RZ range is a tangible step in that journey, designed to meet global customer needs through diversity in powertrain and personalization.
