The Mercedes-Benz S680 Guard 4Matic is a new V12 model coming from Mercedes. It is a luxury armored vehicle with a long wheelbase and VPAM VR10 certification.
The car is suitable for heads of state and high-ranking politicians as well as public figures looking for a high level of protection. It will be offered with 4 or 5 seats.
The S680 Guard is based on the S-Class, but engineers have completely replaced the body with new parts resistant to provide the highest level of protection. 6-inch thick hydraulic windows have been installed. The transmission and steering have been modified to more easily handle a weight of 9,259 pounds (4,200 pounds). Michelin PAX run-flat tires have also been installed that allow the vehicle to cross 19 miles (30 kilometers) after a puncture.
Inside, the seats are upholstered in the finest leather and wood trim. The car is equipped with a fire extinguishing system, a multitude of airbags and a fresh air system. A new touchscreen infotainment console and a digital instrument cluster have been installed.
The S680 is powered by a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine with 604 hp and 612 lb-ft (830 Nm) of torque. The engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Due to the weight of about 4.2 tons, the maximum speed of the vehicle is electronically limited to 118 mph (190 km / h).
It takes 51 days to make one car, and the price of one unit is $ 650,000 (€ 547,400).
