Tesla Model S hit several cars and fell off the ledge

In recent years, Tesla has had major safety issues with its cars that have even led to fatalities. It has happened that a car suddenly stops and causes an accident, and the uncontrolled behavior happened in early December in New South Wales (Australia) when a Model S crashed into several cars in a parking lot.

According to a report by 9 News Australia, the Tesla Model S smashed into several cars and then drove off the ledge on a loading dock. Customers managed to extract two people trapped inside the vehicle, a 59-year-old driver and a 68-year-old passenger who were fortunately not seriously injured.

Police took the vehicle to a garage for an electronic check. It is not yet known whether the driver had full control of the car or if there was a malfunction in the car.

In 2022, a Tesla Model 3 suddenly stopped on I-70 Highway east of Kansas City, causing a collision of several vehicles, which resulted in the death of one person. Some information says that a mechanical issue could be the reason for the loss of power and stopping, but this has not been confirmed. Also, the U.S. authorities launched an investigation following reports of a braking problem that occurred on a number of Tesla cars. According to some owners, their cars unexpectedly activated the brakes for no reason.

This summer, the company recalled over 120,000 cars due to problems with the seat belt warning system. The system is supposed to send visual and audible warnings to drivers when they are not buckled in, but NHTSA has determined that it may not work as intended in some vehicles.

Tesla is recalling over 120,000 cars due to safety system issues

The American car manufacturer Tesla continues to embarrass itself, and the latest in a series of safety problems is a problem with the seat belt warning system. This is why Tesla is recalling over 120,000 cars.

First of all, it should be pointed out that Tesla has not received information about any crashes, injuries or deaths related to this safety system. The system is supposed to send visual and audible warnings to drivers when they are not buckled in, but NHTSA has determined that it may not work as intended in some vehicles.

According to federal vehicle safety standards, the visual warning should last at least one minute and the audible warning should last at least four seconds. Luckily for Tesla, the problem will be fixed via an over-the-air (OTA) software update.

The safety issue includes the Model S (2012 to 2024), Model X (2015 to 2024), Model 3 (2017 to 2023), and Model Y (2020 to 2023). The company state that the software will be updated in all vehicles by the end of June this year.

Tesla will disable “Passenger Play” while driving

Following the launch of the NHTSA investigation due to the suspicion that its Autopilot caused a number of traffic accidents, Tesla also found itself under investigation due to its “Passenger Play” option. This option was recently introduced, and according to the Associated Press, the option will be disabled because it is against the driver’s safety regulations.

The investigation was launched by NHTSA, after which Tesla announced that the use of “Passenger Play” will be possible only in vehicles that are not in motion.

“The Vehicle Safety Act prohibits manufacturers from selling vehicles with defects posing unreasonable risks to safety, including technologies that distract drivers from driving safely,” the NHTSA stated.

Software changes will be made to nearly 600,000 Tesla vehicles, such as the Model X, Model Y, Mode 3 and Model S. The “Passenger Play” option could be accessed after a security warning. But since the software could not determine if it was a driver or a passenger, it could lead to abuse.

“Following the opening of a preliminary evaluation of Tesla’s‘ Passenger Play, ’Tesla informed the agency that it is changing the functionality of this feature. In a new software update, ‘Passenger Play’ will now be locked and unusable when the vehicle is in motion, “reports the Associated Press.
