After Audi decided to allocate even numbers to electric vehicles and odd numbers to combustion cars, the Ingolstadt-based company unveiled the new generation A5/S5. They will replace the A4/S4 on the market, which are becoming fully electric.
The new generation A5 comes with a slightly more modern look and more technology. It received a wide grille, large air vents and new exhaust pipes. LED daytime running lights and second-generation OLED taillights are standard, and adaptive lighting effects are available in Europe. Thanks to the longer wheelbase, passengers have more space in the cabin lined with quality materials. There’s a slim OLED MMI screen, an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit screen, a 14.5-inch MMI touchscreen and an optional 10.9-inch screen for the front passenger. Adjustable HUD display allows control of vehicle functions and infotainment system. Customers can also choose an optional screen for navigation or streaming on the passenger side, Bang and Olufsen sound system with speakers in the headrests, dual-zone air conditioning and more.
When it comes to the A5’s powertrain, buyers can choose between two options. The first option is a turbocharged 2.0-L four-cylinder engine with 150 hp (112 kW) and FWD or 204 hp (152 kW) and quattro four-wheel drive. The engine is equipped with a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry (VTG) for more efficient use of fuel under partial load.
The second option is a 2.0-L TDI (EA288) engine with 204 hp (152 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque, mated to a dual-clutch automatic transmission and front- and all-wheel drive. This option comes with a 48-volt mild hybrid system.
The Audi S5 is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-L V6 engine with 362 hp (270 kW), mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and features quattro four-wheel drive with torque distribution technology. Audi has improved the suspension and steering, while adaptive shock absorbers are also available for a more comfortable ride.
Both models will be on sale from the end of the year, and the price of the basic A5 is 45,200 euros, which includes navigation, an electronic rear hook and a cell phone compartment with a charging function.
