In 2018, as part of the Ultimate Series, McLaren revealed a limited edition hybrid sports car, the McLaren Speedtail. The plan was to build 106 examples of this model, all of which were pre-sold for around £2.1 million. One of them (#72), the 2020 McLaren Speedtail, is up for sale.
The McLaren Speedtail is powered by a 4.0 L M840T twin-turbocharged V8 engine and an electric motor with a total output of 1,036 hp (773 kW) and 848 lb⋅ft (1,150 N⋅m) of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via the Graziano 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that can be controlled via paddle shifters. It reaches 62 mph in 3.0 seconds with a top speed of 250 mph (403 km/h). It is mounted on 10-spoke wheels wrapped in 235/35ZR20 (front) and 315/30ZR21 (rear) Pirelli P Zero tires.
This super car is finished in metallic gray and is in excellent condition with only 175 miles on the odometer. The Speedtail has a carbon fiber monocoque body, with the passenger seats integrated into the chassis. It is equipped with carbon-ceramic disc brakes, active suspension, power-operated dihedral doors, retractable rearview cameras, hydraulically actuated flexible carbon-fiber rear ailerons, an electrochromic glass canopy, front splitter, rear diffuser, side skirts composed of titanium-infused carbon fiber and black-painted brake calipers fitted over carbon-ceramic discs.
Inside, the driver’s seat is trimmed in rich brown with terracotta accents, while the two passenger seats are upholstered in tan semi-aniline leather. Additional equipment includes two digital displays with a touch screen, a canopy and upper windshield made of electrochromic glass that can be darkened at the driver’s command, a central leather-wrapped steering wheel and additional screens displaying the rear views placed on each side of the dashboard.
The car has a clean Carfax report that shows no accidents or other damage. It comes with factory books, tools, a copy of the sales invoice, import documents, “show or display” paperwork, a battery tender and a car cover.
The auction ends on December 14th and the current highest bid is $2,222,222 USD.
