ICE cars will be in use by 2050

The transition to fully electric vehicles by 2030 is the plan of most car manufacturers, and according to the latest information, some companies, such as Stellantis, believe that ICE cars will be in use by 2050.

Stellantis has been one of the biggest proponents of electrification since the beginning, and their prediction will be possible thanks to the use of low-emission synthetic fuels that will be used after 2035 when the last car with a standard internal combustion engine will be produced.

“We have to really take care about our inventory fleet. I think 25% of our vehicles are still in use after 20 years. Hence, this kind of exposure time to e-fuels is considerable, very considerable,” said Christian Mueller, Stellantis’ Senior Vice President.

Stellantis, in cooperation with the Arab oil company Aramco, tested old and new thermal engines. Test results show that 24 types of internal combustion engines, manufactured by Stellantis since 2014, can run on synthetic fuels without any engine modifications. About 28 million cars with such engines are currently in use in Europe.

It should also be noted that the production of e-fuels will not start before 2025, and many believe that they are not a viable alternative in the short time, due to their low availability and high costs.

Peugeot E-3008 coming soon

The official premiere of the new Peugeot E-3008 is approaching, and the French manufacturer has published several teasers of this fully electric car.

The first all-electric Peugeot, developed on the STLA Medium platform, and the first photos of the SUV show that the car will have narrow headlights, triple daytime running lights, a partially covered front fascia, futuristic wheels and a black roof. Inside, a new version of the Panoramic i-Cockpit, a curved 21-inch screen, a Head-up display and a central screen of the multimedia system are some of the components that come with this SUV. Of course, there is also the recognizable small steering wheel, while the central console contains a smaller screen with shortcuts for various functions of the multimedia system and secondary controls.

Although Peugeot successfully hides information about this car, at least until the premiere, some information says that the E-3008 will be equipped with 400-volt technology, without super-fast chargers. It will be offered with two battery types, 86 and 98 kWh from Chinese manufacturer BYD, with lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) cells that can be recharged frequently and also last longer than the ternary lithium batteries used in most electric vehicles (Tesla ).

When it comes to the powertrain, the E-3008 will be offered in versions with one or two electric motors. The base model will be powered by a single electric motor with 217 hp (160 kW) and front-wheel drive. A more powerful version of the E-3008 will be powered by two electric motors, one on each axle, with a total power of 387 hp (285 kW). The company promises a range of 500 kilometers with a smaller battery and 700 kilometers with a 98 kWh battery.

2025 Lotus Emeya

Finally, Lotus has premiered its new all-electric Hyper-GT, the Lotus Emeya. The company did not reveal many details about this car, and what can be seen from the photos is that its design resembles the Lotus Eletre.

Progressive and powerful lines with strong musculature characterize this masterpiece in motion. Two rows of thin lights (Adaptive Driving Beam technology), a sporty design of the hood and an active grill in front, an active diffuser and a rear spoiler in the back, show that it is a serious sports car.

The car is finished in yellow with contrasting black A-pillars that “blend” with the black roof. At the back are a thin light bar that extends along the entire length, and an active rear wing that increases downforce and improves handling at high speeds.

Inside, the driver-focused cockpit is equipped with carbon fiber seats trimmed in white luxury sustainable upcycled fabric, which combined with black fabric covers parts of the dashboard and door panels. In front of the driver are the steering wheel with the lower flat part, as well as the centrally located display.

When it comes to the powertrain, the Lotus Emeya is powered by two electric motors with a total output of 905 hp (666 kW) and 726 lb-ft (985 Nm) of torque. It reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.78 seconds with a top speed of 256 km/h (159 mph). It is equipped with a 102 kWh battery which, thanks to a 350kW DC fast charger, enables a range of 150 kilometers in 5 minutes of charging. The battery will be charged to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.
