The year is coming to an end, and BMW has announced that it has sold one million electric vehicles so far. The ambitious Germans have already set a new goal, to sell two million electric vehicles by 2025.
In a statement to the media, board member Pieter Nota said that hybrid cars account for about 70 percent of electrified vehicles sold. He added that the goal is to double the number of EVs sold in the next three years, and that by 2030, 50 percent of all vehicles sold will be electric.
“Thanks to our steadily growing product range, we are setting ourselves ambitious sales targets, in particular for fully-electric vehicles: In 2022, we aim to double this year’s sales. By 2025 the BMW Group will have delivered around two million fully-electric We expect at least one out of every two BMW Group vehicles sold to be fully electric by 2030, ”said Pieter Nota.
BMW intends to introduce a range of fully electric models in the coming years, the first being the electric version of the 7 Series as well as the X1 model. In addition, the fully electric Series 5 will arrive in 2023. Other electric vehicles will include the successor to the Mini Countryman and Rolls-Royce Specter. All Mini models will be electric by the end of the decade. It is also planned that Rolls-Royce will become a fully electric brand by 2030.
Fulfilling large and ambitious plans will largely depend on the charger infrastructure. Precisely, the number of charging stations will play a major role in spreading electromobility.
