BMW is developing a new racing car based on the M2

BMW M Motorsport has announced the arrival of a new racing car from the second generation of the BMW 2 Series, which will thus join the other racing cars of this series produced in the last decade.

“Proximity to our customers is something we cultivate at BMW M Motorsport. From our point of view, this includes offering mass-market racing cars that teams and beginners can afford, while offering them BMW M Motorsport technology at the highest level. We are delighted to we can announce the successor to the M235i Racing, M240i Racing and M2 CS Racing models. Our engineers are working to optimally prepare the car for customers,” said Bjorn Lellmann of BMW M Motorsport.

Five photos of the new racing model have been published, but there are no details about it yet. It appears to be based on the M2 rather than the lesser 2 Series versions such as the 220i, 230i or M240i. Also, certain modifications are expected to make the car ready for the track.

Although the car is covered in camouflage, some details such as a new front spoiler and a large rear lip spoiler can still be noticed, while the kidney grille and air intakes look like the one on the road model. Also, if you look closely, you can see that the car is closer to the ground than the road-going M2 and that it has new rims wrapped in Goodyear tires. Inside is a full roll cage and racing seats.

It is still not known when the car will be officially unveiled.
