BMW M5 Competition and BMW M4 Competition in drag race

Modern BMW high-performance models are known for showing conservative figures on paper when it comes to their power, which means that they hide a lot of potential for increasing power through software solutions. However, the guys from the YouTube channel DragTimes showed what the tuned BMW M4 xDrive Competition and BMW M5 Competition can do in a drag race.

BMW M4 Competition is powered by a 3.0l inline-six engine with 620 hp (456 kW). Power is transmitted to all wheels via an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. This model has less power, but is lighter than its rivals.

The BMW M5 Competition is powered by a 4.4L twin-turbo V8 engine with 750 hp (552 kW). The standard model has 600 hp (441 kW), and the increase in power is achieved thanks to new software, a new exhaust system and new air intakes. Power is transmitted to all wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

When it comes to race results, the tuned BM M4 Competition covered the 1/4 mile in 10.826 seconds. When the tuned settings were off, the car was 0.5 seconds slower (11.305 seconds). In three races, the BMW M5 Competition set a best time of 10.898 seconds in the 1/4 mile.

It may surprise some that the more powerful BMW M5 didn’t set a faster time than the BMW M4 despite winning two of the three races in the head-to-head clash. What is the reason for that, see and judge for yourself.
