Porsche will produce a new all-electric SUV

The increasing demand for SUV cars around the world, as well as the results achieved in the last year and the first half of 2022, have led Porsche to seriously consider a new all-electric SUV. This news was confirmed by Porsche CEO Oliver Blume.

In 2021, Porsche sold more than 300,000 vehicles worldwide, and the best-selling models were SUVs, Cayenne (83k cars delivered) and Macan (88k cars), which is an 11 percent increase compared to 2020. 2/5 of the total number of Porsche cars sold were electric models. In the first half of 2022, the best-selling Porsche models were also SUVs.

With the new electric model, Porsche wants to strengthen its position in the SUV car market. “Porsche is a leading player in the sports SUV market and in the all-electric luxury car segment,” said Porsche CFO Lutz Meschke. The car will be produced in Leipzig at the plant where Porsche currently produces the Macan and Panamera.

The long-term plans of the Stuttgart-based company are that by 2030, 80 percent of all cars sold will be electric models. Thus, for 2024, Porsche announced the arrival of the fully electric Macan as well as the 718 Cayman.

Hyundai is developing a small electric car for the European market

South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai is expanding its electric range. After the unveiling of the Ioniq 6 as a rival to the Tesla Model 3, the arrival of the Ioniq 7 SUV with three rows of seats was announced for 2024. For those with a little less money, Hyundai is preparing a cheaper electric car for the European market that will cost around 20,000 euros.

In an interview with Automotive News Europe, Hyundai’s head of marketing in Europe Andreas-Christoph Hofmann said that developing a more sustainable electric vehicle in response to increasingly stringent emissions laws in the European Union will be a difficult task. First of all, small cars are cheaper and do not bring much profit, which will affect the company’s profit. That’s why Hyundai has focused on its three larger models, the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 7.

Hyundai plans to produce 11 electric models by the end of the decade, and this is supported by the fact that Hyundai’s share of the European electric car market has grown by 470 percent.

The South Korean automaker is among several companies that believe hydrogen still has a future. However, without major investments in infrastructure, fuel cell cars like the N Vision 74 Concept remain just a dream.

2023 Mini Cooper SE Convertible

The British company Mini has announced that future models of this brand will be electric, and the recently presented Mini Cooper SE Convertible shows what their future will look like. It will have its premiere at the MINI Takes the States event in the United States.

The Cooper SE Convertible is the same size as the Cooper S Convertible. Comfortable with enough space for four passengers, and 160 L of luggage space. The car has a folding roof and the driver can choose three options: open, closed and sunroof. The roof can be folded in less than 20 seconds at a maximum speed of 30 km/h.

This unique and fully functional electric concept car is powered by an electric motor with 181 hp (133 kW) and 199 lb-ft (270 Nm) of torque. That’s just enough to get the Cooper SE Convertible to 62 mph in 7.7 seconds, and when it comes to range, the convertible has an estimated range of 142 miles (230 kilometers).

This is not the only news from Mini, because the company is seriously considering a new generation of electric Mini Cooper that will be completely different from the current model. Rumors say that Mini will also offer an electric crossover to the market. Whether that will happen remains to be seen.
