Norway: Greater demand for electric cars

When it comes to vehicles sold, Norway is the first country in the world where the share of electric cars is higher than 50 percent. Electric vehicles account for 54.3 percent of the total number of new vehicles sold in 2020.

By 2025, Norway wants to become the first country to end the sale of petrol and diesel cars. Although among the 20 largest oil producers, Norway is striving to increase the number of electric cars on its roads. Buyers of electric vehicles are exempt from taxes on purchases and imports, taxes on roads, and they also have large discounts when paying tolls, parking and ferries.

To encourage people to buy electric cars, Norway has invested heavily in developing the necessary infrastructure and is building fast charging stations every 50 kilometers of the country’s main roads. In addition, the state has increased taxes on cars that use conventional fuel.

Among the four best-selling electric cars in Norway are the Audi e-tron, the Tesla Model 3, the Volkswagen ID.3 and the Nissan Leaf.
