Last season of Formula 1 was far from good for Mercedes because the team achieved only one victory and that was in Brazil where George Russell celebrated. The Briton finished fourth in the drivers’ standings, while his team-mate Lewis Hamilton finished sixth. Despite the results in Formula 1, AMG decided to mark the end of the season with a special version, the Mercedes-Benz AMG SL 63 Motorsport Collectors Edition.
The sports roadster, based on the most powerful SL 63 model, is available in a version called Motorsport Collectors Edition. It brings a host of visual changes inspired by the F1 car, but the 2021 one driven by Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. It is finished in metallic gray while the back is in a combination of black and Petronas green.
It is equipped with the AMG Aerodynamics Package, which includes a more massive diffuser, chassis changes that improve airflow and side skirts. A number of black details are added thanks to the AMG Night Package and AMG Night Package II, including a black chrome radiator grille, dark brake calipers and black badging.
Inside, the AMG Performance seats are upholstered in black Nappa leather with red or yellow stitching, with the AMG logo located on the headrests. Additional equipment includes carbon details, Burmester sound system, head-up display and AMG Track Pace telemetry system.
When it comes to the powertrain, the Mercedes-Benz AMG SL 63 Motorsport Collectors Edition is powered by a 4.0L V8 biturbo engine with 585 hp (430 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. It reaches 62 mph in 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 196 mph (315 km/h). It sits on a set of 21-inch 10-twin-spoke wheels, as well as a black fabric roof that is electronically controlled. The AMG Performance seats can be upholstered in black Nappa leather with red or yellow stitching, and decorated with the AMG logo located on the headrests. Carbon details, Burmester audio system, head-up display and AMG Track Pace telemetry system round off the equipment.
Mercedes said the SL 63 Motorsport Collectors Edition will be produced in just 100 examples, and each will come with a synthetic fabric cover.
