1985 Mercedes-Benz 500SEC AMG 6.0 is up for auction

57 years ago, an engineering firm specializing in performance improvements for Mercedes-Benz vehicles, AMG (Aufrecht, Melcher, Großaspach), was founded. It worked independently for years, before becoming part of Mercedes-Benz AG in 2005. One of the cars upgraded by AMG during the independence period, the 1985 Mercedes-Benz 500SEC AMG 6.0, is up for auction.

This European-spec Coupe version (C126) was produced between 1981 and 1991 and finished in Black over Anthracite interior. It is equipped with a limited-slip differential, fog lights, a sunroof, heated and power-adjustable front seats, air conditioning, and cruise control. AMG modified the car by adding a Sebring-AMG exhaust system, 17-inch OZ Racing wheels, 4-piston front brake calipers, a body kit, wood interior trim, a 4-spoke steering wheel, and a 300-kph speedometer. The odometer reads 82,171 km (~51,100 miles).

While customers in America could only choose the 380 model with 155 hp, Europeans could order the 500 variant that offered a more powerful engine. This Mercedes AMG left the factory with a 5.0-liter SOHC M117 V8 engine (231 hp and 405 Nm), but AMG decided to replace it with a modified 6.0-liter V8 engine that delivered 330 hp (246 kW) and 387 lb-ft (525 Nm) of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Carfax history report starts in 2023 and lists no accidents since. the car comes with 1 key, owner’s manual, AMG documentation, service records and warning triangle.

The auction ends on August 12th and the highest bid at the time of writing was $85,000 USD.

Unique Pininfarina B95 Gotham

Between August 9 – 18, the annual event dedicated to classic cars, luxury automobiles and motorsports, Monterey Car Week, will be held, where Automobili Pininfarina will unveil one of the four cars inspired by the vibrant streets of Gotham City, the Pininfarina B95 Gotham.

Automobili Pininfarina is a German manufacturer of luxury electric vehicles, and at MCW they will reveal the Pininfarina B95 Gotham, a car that redefines extreme performance and technology. The car was created in cooperation with Wayne Enterprises, and it is powered by four electric motors with a total power of 1,900 hp (1,417 kW). It reaches 60 mph (97 km/h) in less than 2 seconds with a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph). It is also equipped with a 120 kWh lithium-ion battery.

The Pininfarina B95 Gotham is finished in Argento Vittorio gloss paint over Tan Leather. It is equipped with Prezioso Evoluzione wheels finished in a matt black inner and gloss black outer ring, Titan calipers and a brushed aluminum anodized black rim center lock ring, Gloss black mirror caps, while the ‘F’ badge in brushed and polished aluminum, anodized with back light .

Inside, the bespoke front seats are finished in exposed signature satin carbon and back in Argento Vittorio gloss paint. They are upholstered in Tan Leather with bespoke electrowelding quilting in the center panels and Tan stitching.

Automobili Pininfarina will produce only one copy of this car, and it will cost 4.9 million euros. Soon, we should see the remaining three cars: Battista Gotham, B95 Dark Knight and Battista Dark Knight. The B95 Dark Knight will also cost 4.9 million euros, while the Battista version will cost 3.4 million euros.

New Dacia hybrids will combine LPG and electricity

Diesels were the most desirable cars in Europe for years, but the development of electric cars and increased demand pushed them into the background. However, it gave the opportunity to manufacturers to find new solutions like LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) used by Dacia cars. Starting next year, the new generation of cars will combine LPG with MHEV technology.

The EU heavily encourages the purchase of hybrid cars, primarily targeting current diesel owners. Adopting new regulations on internal combustion engines forced manufacturers to speed up the electrification of their cars. So Dacia also increased the number of its fully electric and hybrid cars, which resulted in a good positioning in the market, and the new decision to combine LPG and electrification will definitely make it even better.

The Romanian brand is currently developing a new generation of engines, which will be more powerful than the current 1.0 ECO-G with 100 hp (74 kW). The basis will be the new Renault 1.2 TCe gasoline engine, which means that the three-cylinder block remains, but in combination with 12 and 48-volt mild hybrid (MHEV) technology, with a total power of 120 hp to 150 hp. Buyers will be able to choose engines with manual and EDC dual-clutch automatic transmissions, and FWD and AWD versions. The first models that will be launched are the new Duster and Bigster, which are expected in late 2024 or early 2025.
