Alpine A310 VISION Reimagines a French Sports Car Icon With a Radical Retro-Futuristic Design

Alpine A310 VISION celebrates the heritage of the legendary A310 with a dramatic, low-slung silhouette, sculptural aluminium bodywork and futuristic aerodynamic details. Created as an independent design concept, it explores how Alpine’s iconic 1970s sports car could evolve using modern design language and the possibilities of the new APP platform.

Alpine is looking to its past to explore the future of its sports cars. The Alpine A310 VISION is a striking design concept that reinterprets one of the most distinctive models in the French brand’s history, combining the geometric simplicity of the original A310 with contemporary proportions, advanced materials and a bold aerodynamic identity.

Created to mark two important milestones—the 55th anniversary of the four-cylinder Alpine A310 and the 50th anniversary of the A310 V6—the concept celebrates the car’s enduring influence on Alpine’s design philosophy. Rather than recreating the original sports car, Alpine’s design team has explored how its distinctive character could be translated into a modern vehicle.

The result is a retro-futuristic vision that combines heritage-inspired styling with an experimental approach to proportions, surfaces and aerodynamic elements. However, Alpine has made it clear that the A310 VISION is an independent design study, not an announcement of a future production model.

Alpine A310 VISION: A Modern Interpretation of a 1970s Icon

When Alpine unveiled the original A310 in 1971, the model expanded the story established by the legendary Berlinette. Its low profile, wide stance and angular bodywork gave it an unmistakable identity within the European sports car landscape.

The A310 represented a different interpretation of Alpine’s sporting character. Its silhouette was more substantial and sculptural than that of the smaller Berlinette, while its distinctive proportions communicated performance without relying on unnecessary styling details.

The new Alpine A310 VISION builds on those principles. The design team studied an original A310 positioned at the centre of the Alpine design studio, using the historic car as a reference for sketches, volume studies and detailed analysis of its defining lines.

The objective was to identify what made the original design so effective and reinterpret those characteristics through a contemporary lens.

The concept draws inspiration from both generations of the A310. The early four-cylinder versions contributed their visual purity and relatively simple surfaces, while the later V6 models inspired the wider rear proportions and more muscular stance.

By combining these influences, Alpine has created a design that acknowledges its heritage without becoming a straightforward retro exercise.

Dramatic Proportions Define the Alpine A310 VISION

The concept’s proportions are central to its visual impact. At 4.55 metres long, 1.18 metres high and up to 2.03 metres wide across the rear, the Alpine A310 VISION adopts an exceptionally low and broad stance.

Its wheelbase measures 2.45 metres, reinforcing the compact, planted appearance that has traditionally characterised Alpine sports cars.

The contrast between the long, low body and the heavily sculpted rear section gives the concept a distinctive visual balance. Its broad rear haunches recall the more muscular A310 V6, while the overall silhouette retains the sharp, geometric character of the original model.

Alpine has also developed bespoke wheels featuring a triangular, A-shaped motif. These elements reference the full-metal wheels fitted to early A310 models while introducing a contemporary graphic interpretation of the brand’s identity.

The exterior combines aluminium bodywork with a black lower section featuring organic forms inspired by Formula 1. Above it, a semi-transparent cabin creates a striking contrast between the solid surfaces of the body and the lighter appearance of the passenger compartment.

Together, these elements give the Alpine A310 VISION a futuristic aesthetic without abandoning the visual principles that defined its predecessor.

Innovative Lighting and Aerodynamics Shape the Exterior

Beyond its proportions, the Alpine A310 VISION explores how functional elements can become defining features of a sports car’s design.

At the front, the headlights are integrated into a sculpted section of the bodywork. The arrangement creates a distinctive pop-down effect, with the front-end design revealing more of the car’s character when the vehicle starts up.

The bonnet incorporates an S-duct-inspired recess, using sharply defined yet flowing contours to introduce a stronger sense of direction to the front section. The treatment references aerodynamic thinking associated with high-performance racing cars while remaining part of a broader design exploration.

Another defining feature is the central Y zero blade. Running through the middle of the car, this visual element creates a vanishing-point effect that draws the eye towards the rear and emphasises the concept’s length and symmetry.

At the back, a two-piece split rear wing introduces a more technical appearance. Its semi-transparent treatment evokes ice and mountain landscapes, providing a visual reference to the natural environment associated with Alpine’s identity.

The rear lighting follows the same philosophy. Blade-shaped lights are integrated into the bodywork and incorporate an aerodynamic downforce function, bringing lighting and aerodynamic intent together in a single design element.

These features underline the concept’s central theme: a sports car in which every major surface and component contributes to a coherent visual identity.

The New APP Platform Opens Up Design Possibilities

The Alpine A310 VISION also demonstrates the creative freedom offered by Alpine’s new APP platform.

Conceived to push the boundaries of sports car design while maintaining practical modularity, the platform provides a foundation for exploring alternative proportions, new volumes and fresh interpretations of the brand’s styling language.

For the A310 VISION, this flexibility allows Alpine’s designers to investigate a more radical relationship between the body, cabin and aerodynamic components.

The concept should not be interpreted as a preview of a confirmed production vehicle or as evidence that a new A310 has been approved for launch. Instead, it serves as a design laboratory for examining how Alpine’s visual identity could evolve.

That distinction is important. The project is primarily concerned with form, proportion and emotion rather than presenting a complete technical specification for a road-going sports car.

Alpine has not announced production plans, powertrain details or performance figures for the A310 VISION.

A Minimalist Cockpit With a High-End Audio-Inspired Touch

Although the exterior is the main focus, Alpine offers a glimpse of the concept’s interior through its semi-transparent cabin.

The cockpit continues the exterior’s emphasis on sculptural forms and carefully controlled visual contrasts. Seats feature organic shapes, while selected interior elements use bold colours arranged in a colour-blocking scheme.

Rather than pursuing a completely screen-dominated environment, the concept also incorporates physical controls inspired by high-end hi-fi equipment.

This detail suggests an approach that places tactile interaction and the driver’s sensory experience at the centre of the interior design. The controls are intended to complement the concept’s visual character rather than distract from it.

The cabin remains deliberately suggestive, however. Alpine has not presented it as a fully developed production interior, and its primary purpose is to communicate the atmosphere and design philosophy of the concept.

Alpine A310 VISION Looks to the Future Without Forgetting Its Past

The original Alpine A310 occupies an important position in the brand’s history, bridging the lightweight sporting philosophy of the Berlinette with a more substantial and visually assertive sports car.

Its appeal came from a distinctive combination of proportions, simplicity and individuality. Those qualities remain relevant to Alpine’s design approach today.

The A310 VISION demonstrates how the company can draw on that heritage without simply repeating familiar styling cues. Its low roofline, broad rear bodywork and geometric details establish a clear connection with the original car, while its semi-transparent elements, integrated lighting and aerodynamic features give the concept a contemporary identity.

The project also illustrates how the APP platform could support further experimentation with the proportions and forms of future Alpine sports cars.

For enthusiasts, the concept offers an intriguing glimpse into the design possibilities available to the French performance brand. It does not confirm the return of the A310 as a production model, but it shows that Alpine continues to explore ways of translating its distinctive heritage into new forms.

Ultimately, the Alpine A310 VISION is less about reviving a classic sports car than about understanding why its design remains memorable. By combining the purity of the original four-cylinder model with the more muscular character of the V6, Alpine has created a modern interpretation that looks firmly towards the future while preserving the spirit of a 1970s icon.
