2025 Alpine A390_β Concept

In recent years, the demand for SUVs has been on the rise, and many manufacturers who have long resisted offering their customers this type of vehicle are now slowly entering this market. One of the newcomers to the SUV market is the French company Alpine, which has announced the arrival of its first SUV car with the Alpine A390_β concept.

The Alpine A390 brings standard B roof racks and five doors, and the designers have promised that the production version will retain 85 percent of the elements that adorn the concept model. Also, the company insists that the name will be A390 sport fastback. The interior of the car, enough to accommodate five passengers, will be modern and functional, inspired by some solutions from Formula 1.

When it comes to the powertrain, the SUV will be powered by three electric motors, one on the front and two on the rear axle, with adaptive drive on both axles, and the driver will be able to choose only RWD.

The A390 will be the second electric model of the French manufacturer, but not the last, as the company plans to offer at least seven fully electric cars by the end of the decade. One of them is the Coupé A310, which with a 2+2 seat configuration should be the company’s answer to the competitive Porsche 911.

Alpine A290 GTS

French car company Alpine has revealed the sporty version of the recently introduced Renault 5, the A290 GTS. It is the first all-electric car of this company and will cost around 38,000 euros.

The body, decorated with several retro details, is reminiscent of the legendary Renault 5 Turbo, and will be offered in four colors and with four equipment packages. The cabin has heated front seats, a sports leather-wrapped steering wheel with a red OV (overtake) button which, when activated, provides additional power for the next 10 seconds. There is also a 10.1-inch multimedia system display that is compatible with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto applications.

Alpine will offer two versions of this model and the A290 GTS is the most powerful, powered by a single electric motor with 220 hp (164 kW) and 221 lb-ft (300 Nm) of torque. That’s enough power to push the 1,479 kg car from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.4 seconds. Power is sent to the rear axle, and drivers will be able to choose between four modes (Save, Normal, Sport and Personal). It is equipped with a 52 kWh battery which, according to WLTP norms, enables a range of up to 380 km. On 100-kilowatt chargers, the battery can be charged from 15 to 80 percent in 30 minutes.

A slightly weaker version is the GT Premium with a single electric motor and 180 hp (134 kW), which is enough to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds. It is mounted on 19″ wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires. Brembo brakes from the A110 model take care of safe braking and stopping.

2025 Renault Rafale E-Tech 4×4

Renault Rafale E-Tech 4×4 is the first version of Renault’s flagship SUV coupe with four-wheel drive and plug-in hybrid drive. With the Atelier Alpine version, you get a custom chassis that was worked on by the brand’s experts who also worked on the A110 model.

The Rafale was introduced last summer, but the only available model was powered by a 1.2-L engine with 200 hp (149 kW) assisted by two electric motors (one starter generator and one larger motor integrated into the gearbox) and all-wheel drive. However, Renault added a third engine (136 hp/101 kW) to the rear axle in the Rafale E-Tech 4×4, and now the power total is 300 hp (224 kW). That’s more than enough to accelerate the SUV from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.4 seconds. It is equipped with a 22 kWh battery that provides an electric range of 100 km. The battery can be charged to 80 percent capacity in 130 minutes, and a full charge takes 2 hours and 55 minutes.

Customers can choose between two equipment packages, Espirit Alpine and Atelier Alpine. The Espirit Alpine gets branded floor mats and 20-inch wheels, while the Atelier Alpine version is adorned with Satin Summit blue bodywork, a Starry black spoiler and a set of 21-inch Chicane wheels. Atelier Alpine brings adaptive suspension, a road scanning camera in front of the car, Chasis Control on the infotainment system screen, which is used to select one of three settings (Comfort, Dynamic and Sport) that adjust the shock absorbers and steering angle of the rear wheels.

The car will go on sale in Europe in Q3 2024, and the price is currently unknown.
