Following last year’s unveiling of the new BMW 7 Series and BMW i7, the Bavarian automaker now presents a more powerful production edition of the electric model, the BMW i7 M70 xDrive. The sale is planned for the beginning of summer.

The i7 M70 xDrive is powered by two electric motors with a total power of 660 hp (485 kW) and 811 lb-ft (1,100 Nm) of torque. That’s enough power for the 5.39-meter and 2,700-kilogram luxury sedan to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.7 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). It is equipped with a 105.7 kWh battery set that provides a range of up to 560 kilometers with a single charge. It takes 34 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent on fast chargers.

The M department prepared a refined integral drive system for the i7 M70 xDrive, as well as a refined control system over both axles and an adaptive air suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers and stabilizers. The goal: To be as manageable as any M model and as comfortable as a Rolls-Royce. New brakes are installed, hidden behind aerodynamically optimized 21-inch aluminum wheels.

The car is also equipped with Max Range, which, by turning off certain electrical consumers and reducing the power of the electric motor and the speed of movement (up to 90 km/h), helps in maximum energy saving. If the driver finds himself in a situation where instead of the planned location (if the charger is not working) he has to look for a new location to recharge the batteries.

As the arrival of the next generation BMW Series 7 approaches, some information on the performance of this model is also emerging. Rumor has it that the new BMW M750e will have almost the same power as the current M760i xDrive.

According to BMWBlog, the most powerful model of the BMW Series 7 will be powered by a B59 3.0-liter 6-cylinder turbo petrol engine combined with an electric motor with a total power of 560 hp (312 kW), which is only 41 hp (30 kW) less than the M760i with twin-turbo V12 engine. It is estimated that the petrol engine would deliver around 400 hp while the remaining 160 hp would come from the electric motor, although this has not been confirmed.

When it comes to design, the new Series 7 will have a somewhat futuristic look to the front including two-row LED lights, as well as a massive radiator grille and several air intakes. There will also be a large radar unit for auxiliary systems. It will use Rolls-Royce technology such as fully automatic doors, enhanced Bowers & Wilkins speakers and will offer more customization options.

Production of the first Series 7 models will begin later this year, and will hit the market in early 2023.
