1988 ItalDesign Aztec is up for auction

At the end of the 60s, a design and engineering company, ItalDesign, was founded. In 1988, celebrating two decades of existence, at the Turin Motor Show, they presented a unique sports car in which the driver and passenger were separated, and the two parties communicated electronically. It is about the ItalDesign Aztec concept, which was produced in only about 20 examples, and one of them, the 1988 ItalDesign Aztec, is up for auction.

This car has a speedster body style with partial visor sections which are removable and open in a gull-wing arrangement. It is equipped with transparent door inserts, pop-up headlights, carbon fiber rear wing, and control panels on both sides of the aluminum body panels at the back. After entering the codes into the dashboard, certain functions of the car (additional set of lights, hydraulic jack, removable screwdriver, fire extinguisher, tire compressor and flashlight) can be accessed via voice message.

The car in the photos is actually the 12th example produced, and between 2011 and 2015 it was in the Shanghai Auto Museum. It was recently imported to the US and serviced by Autocouture Motoring. It is powered by a 2.2 L Audi MB/1B turbocharged DOHC I5 engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

The estimated value of the car is $273,000 – $325,000 USD.

1991 Mercedes-Benz 6.0 Widebody Coupe is up for auction

Among the number of cars appearing at auction recently, the 1991 Mercedes-Benz 6.0 Widebody Coupe is a real gem. It’s a rare car based on the Mercedes-Benz W124 Coupe that has been turned into a unique car by AMG experts.

The car is finished in Nautical metallic blue, and it is decorated with a set of 17-inch OZ Racing wheels. The interior is upholstered in blue leather and numerous changes have been made, from the installation of Recaro seats, wood details, the AMG gear lever to the glove box. There is also a smaller AMG four-spoke steering wheel in front of the white AMG dashboard.

Under the hood is a new 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine with 375 hp (276 kW). The rear suspension was reengineered to reduce squatting and chassis flex when under acceleration. A Torsen limited-slip differential was installed, and body modifications were made to include extended wheel arches.

The car has only 36,701 km (22,805 miles) on the odometer. It is one of only a few examples with an AMG serial number. The car spent most of its time in Japan, but in 2022 it was imported to the USA. Estimated value is $750,000 – $850,000 USD.

1964 Aston Martin DB5 sold for USD $2,425,000

Some consider Sean Connery to be one of the best actors to play the most famous secret agent James Bond 007 in the film franchise. From Dr. No (1962) to No Time To Die (2021), 27 sequels were made, so anything related to the film or the actors who played the secret agent attracts a lot of attention. Recently, a 1964 Aston Martin DB5, from the Scottish actor’s private collection, was sold at auction for $2,425,000.

Sean Connery passed away two years ago, and this Aston Martin DB5 was one of his favorite cars from his collection. The car is in excellent condition and a significant part of the money will be donated to the Sean Connery Philanthropy Fund. Connery bought the car in 2018, and it was originally painted black, but was repainted in Snow Shadow Gray to look like the DB5 used in the film. It does not have the equipment with which the car used in the film is equipped, such as weapons and other gadgets.

Aston Martin DB5 is powered by a 4.0l inline-six engine with 282 hp (210 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 288 lb⋅ft (390 N⋅m) at 3,850 rpm. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 5-speed ZF gearbox (optional BorgWarner 3-speed automatic). It reaches 60 mph in 8 seconds with a top speed of 145 mph (233 km/h).

The car was sold by Broad Arrow Auctions, and the unknown buyer will have the opportunity to be driven by Connery’s friend and Formula 1 champion Sir Jackie Stewart.
