The annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will take place on the last Sunday of June, and Ford has already announced that it will compete with an electric van, the SuperVan 4.
Ford unveiled the SuperVan 4 in the middle of last year, as part of the launch of the new e-Transit model. The vehicle was premiered at the Goodwood Festival of Speed where it was driven by Romain Dumas, who will also be behind the wheel at Pikes Peak this year. This superpowered van is great for Pikes Peak because its electric drivetrain doesn’t lose power with altitude, unlike an internal combustion engine.
The Ford SuperVan 4 is powered by four electric motors with a total output of 1,973 hp (1,451 kW). It hits 62 mph in less than 2 seconds, and is expected to set a very good time.
The current race record is 7:57.148, set by Dumas in 2018 when he drove the all-electric Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak. Who knows, maybe Dumas will set the best time again this year, but behind the wheel of a Ford SuperVan.
