Porsche Taycan GTS is the king of ice

The Porsche Taycan GTS set the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous ice drift in the category of electric cars, which is now 46 minutes or 17 kilometers and 503 meters.

Behind the wheel was Porsche Experience instructor Jens Richter, and the car was equipped with a professional GPS device for precise route measurement. This device records the distance traveled, as well as the driver’s activity such as steering wheel movements, accelerator pedal use and brake pedal use.

This Taycan GTS has 700 hp and 790 Nm of torque with Launch Control. It reaches 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h, and has an electric range of 552 kilometers (WLTP).

It took them several attempts to set a new record. The first attempt took place in the afternoon of January 14 on the ice track at the Porsche Arctic Center in Levi, Finland, 150 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. The Porsche Experience team created a drift circle with a diameter of 59 meters, but under the great pressure created by the car, the icy track was quickly destroyed, so the attempt was stopped after around 11 kilometers.

In the second attempt, Michelin tires with millimeter studs were used, which, along with the lower ice temperature, made it possible to set a new record. It should be noted that the new record is almost 3 kilometers longer than the previous one.

“With our new Guinness World Records title on ice, the Taycan has once again proven its sideways driving qualities. And this time even with all-wheel drive. The fact that the Taycan GTS can be controlled so well even under extreme conditions speaks volumes for its excellent chassis and balanced performance,” said Jens Richter.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 set a Guinness World Record

In March 2024, Hyundai launched the refreshed Ioniq 5, and a few days ago this car achieved a truly respectable result. According to Hyundai, the Ioniq 5 is the first EV to reach an altitude difference of 5,802 meters, which is a new Guinness World Record.

For this journey, long more than 4,900 km, the Ioniq 5 was equipped with a 72.6 kWh battery that was used in the previous Long Range version, while the refreshed Ioniq 5 has an 84 kWh battery.

This venture was organized by the Evo India team and Hyundai Motor India Limited and the start was at Umling La at an altitude of 5,799 meters while the finish was in Kuttanad in Kerala, which is three meters below sea level. During the journey, the car struggled with really difficult weather conditions, such as ice, steep roads to wet roads on the coast.

The refreshed Hyundai Ioniq is equipped with new front and rear bumpers, a wider front air intake, a 50 mm extended rear spoiler, and a special body kit decorated with several N Line badges, a new set of aerodynamic 20-inch wheels, a stiffer body, and better shock absorbers for greater comfort.

Rimac Nevera set a new Guinness World Record in reverse

After setting the fastest speed in the category of electric production cars a year ago, Rimac Nevera has now set the Guinness World Record in reverse. It reached a top speed of 275.74 km/h (171.34 mph).

A video of the new Guinness World Record was published on the official RimacAutomobili YouTube channel, and was verified by Dewesoft – at the ATP proving ground in Papenburg, Germany. This was possible thanks to the fact that Nevera’s drivetrain has no gears and its four individual motors generate immense acceleration whether traveling forwards or backwards. Behind the steering wheel was test driver Goran Drndak.

The Rimac Nevera is powered by four electric motors with a total power of 1,914 hp (1,408 kW) and 1,741 lb-ft (2,360 Nm) of torque. It reaches 62 mph in just 1.97 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 219 mph (352 km/h). It is equipped with a lithium-manganese-nickel battery with 6,960 cells and a capacity of 120kWh.

This record is only one of over 20 that Nevera broke this year. At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Nevera set a new record on the 1.86 kilometer track with a time of 49.32 seconds.
