Maserati MC20 Folgore EV announced for 2025

Maserati plans to electrify all its cars by the end of the decade, and that includes the fully electric models Quattroporte, Levante and MC20. A few days ago, Maserati announced the arrival of the MC20 Folgore EV in the coming year.

“Driven by our Modena heart, we are going full throttle to lead change on electrification, with two of our iconic models already available for purchase in their 100 per cent electric versions, and another on the way this year,” said Maserati boss Davide Grasso .

Although it was most likely that it would arrive on the market in 2022, that did not happen and Maserati is now saying that it will offer its preferred customers the most powerful Maseratis ever, pushing the boundaries of driving pleasure to a new era.

The Maserati MC20 Folgore should be powered by three electric motors with a total power of 700 hp (522 kW) and will have all-wheel drive. It will be 100 kg heavier than the ICE-powered model, and will accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.0 seconds. Whether this means it will have the same configuration as the GranTurismo Folgore, which is also powered by three electric motors with a total power of 750 hp (559 kW), is unknown.

“With our long-term strategic vision and plan, we want to make a mark in the luxury world with unique Italian manufacturing excellence, constantly pushing distinctive quality and building our future with a dedicated business model that guarantees our customers the best products that reflect the Trident’s values,” the company said.

930 million euros in subsidies for EV buyers in Italy

The Italian government has announced that it intends to use subsidies to encourage the purchase of electric cars, but also to help owners of cars with the Euro 2 standard to replace them with electric ones. This program includes a financial plan of 930 million euros (13,750 euros per car), which is a record amount of subsidies in Europe. The decision is not yet official, so the current demand for EVs dropped, which forced some manufacturers like Stellantis to start laying off employees.

Stellantis announced that due to reduced demand for EVs, it was forced to lay off more than 2,000 workers at the Mirafiori plant. This is not the first time that Stellantis makes such a decision, as a similar situation occurred at the end of last year.

The union is concerned about the decision to lay off a large number of workers and has asked Stellantis management for a meeting as soon as possible. “The layoffs will apply from February 12 to March 3 and will affect 1,250 workers who make the electric Fiat 500 and another 1,000 workers who work on the production of Maserati cars,” a company spokesman said.

The current global financial situation is not good, so saving every euro is important. As a result, buyers are holding off on purchasing electric vehicles while waiting for the government to implement the announced incentives.

2024 Maserati MC20 Notte

Since 2021 when Maserati premiered the MC20, the Italian automaker has not released a new version of this model until now. This is a special limited edition super sports two-seater based on the Coupé version, the Maserati MC20 Notte.

The Maserati Notte is powered by a centrally located twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter Nettuno engine with 621 hp and 538 lb-ft (729 Nm) of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Tremec 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.85 seconds with a top speed of 325 km/h (202 mph). It is mounted on a set of specially designed 20-inch wheels.

This car will be produced in only 50 examples finished in gloss black over a dark interior trimmed in leather and alcantara with carbon elements. Black and gray sports seats with yellow stitching and a Maserati logo on the headrest, a semi-carbon steering wheel, and a “UNA DI 50” plate located in the background between the seats, decorate the interior of this unique car.

According to a recent statement by Alfa production director Daniel Guzzafame, this was originally planned to be Alfa Romeo’s super sports car, but it wasn’t. The car presentation was attended by Maserati test driver Andrea Bertolini.
