1961 Mercedes-Benz 190SL is for sale

Between 1955 and 1963, Mercedes produced a two-door luxury roadster, the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL, as an alternative to the exclusive Mercedes-Benz 300 SL. 25,881 cars left the factory and one of them, the 1961 Mercedes-Benz 190SL is for sale.

The car is in excellent condition, refinished in Silver Gray Metallic (left the factory in white). It is equipped with a black convertible soft top, driver-side mirror, double-wishbone front suspension, rear swing axles with coil springs, and power-assisted drum brakes. It sits on steel 13″ wheels with chrome trim rings wrapped in 185/80 BFGoodrich Silvertown tires.

The Mercedes-Benz 190SL is powered by a 1.9-liter M121 inline-four engine with factory 104 hp (77 kW) and 105 lb-ft (142 Nm) of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a fully synchronized four-speed manual transmission.

Inside, the low-back bucket seats are upholstered in red leather that also covers the door panels, dash and rear bench, with matching carpets. Additional equipment includes a two-spoke steering wheel, a Becker Mexico AM/FM radio, an analog clock, and a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror. The five-digit odometer reads 44,030 miles.

In 2023 the car was serviced which included rebuilding the Weber carburetor, replacing the fuel sending unit, fuel lines and rear engine mount. The exhaust system was repaired, the rear axle was rebuilt, and the axle and suspension components were repainted.

The car comes with a copy of the data card, an owner’s manual, service records, a jack and tool kit, and a clean Arizona title that identifies the car as a 1964 model.

The auction ends on April 29 and the highest bid at the time of writing was $70,000 USD.
