Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series

The Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series was recently sold at auction. It is the most powerful version of the R230SL model that was produced in the period from 2001 to 2011.

The SL65 AMG Black Series is in good condition with a few minor scratches. It is equipped with a carbon body kit that includes ultra-wide fenders, sports bumpers, a bonnet with a vent, an active rear spoiler, a diffuser and a fixed roof in Iridium silver.

The interior is upholstered in black leather. There is a COMAND infotainment system from the last era, a new starting system, as well as dual-zone air conditioning.

The Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series is powered by an AMG 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine with 661 hp (486 kW) and 737 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque. The engine is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission that transmits power to the rear wheels. It reaches 62 mph in 3.8 seconds with a top speed of 199 mph (320 km / h).

The auction model is one of 350 units produced, with only 11,000 miles (18,000 kilometers). The new owner bought it for $ 405,000. Last year, one such 2009 SL65 AMG Black Series model with 10,000 miles (16,000 kilometers) was sold for $ 185,000.

2022 Mercedes-AMG One

After several delays due to technical problems, production of the 2022 Mercedes-AMG One, a hybrid road version of Formula 1, will begin next year.

It seems that AMG has finally managed to solve all the technical problems, as the arrival of the limited edition One has been announced for the middle of next year. Great news for all 275 owners who paid $ 3 million (€ 2.34 million) for their model a long time ago.

Mercedes-AMG premiered its powerful concept in 2017 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. But no one even thought that the development, testing and problem solving, on the hybrid “beast” that comes with the Formula 1 engine, would take five years.

The Mercedes-AMG One is powered by a centrally located 1.6-liter V6 turbo engine, combined with four electric motors, delivering more than 1,000 hp (746 kW) at 11,000 rpm. That’s enough for this supercar to reach 124 mph (200 km / h) in less than six seconds with a top speed of 217 mph (350 km / h).

The engine is adapted to Mercedes’ hybrid racer W1 W06. Certainly, it was not easy for Mercedes to meet WLTP emission standards, but even with an engine like this, the Mercedes-AMG One will be among the fastest cars on the road.

End of production of the Mercedes AMG GT

Is the Mercedes AMG GT performing its last dance? According to unofficial information, Mercedes will end production of the AMG GT at the end of the year, and orders are no longer being accepted.

The Mercedes AMG GT was first introduced in 2015 as a Coupé and Roadster version. It is powered by an AMG twin-turbocharged 4-liter biturbo V8 engine with 469 hp (350 kW) and 465 lb-ft (630 Nm) of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT dual-clutch transmission.

In July, Mercedes introduced the fastest version of this model. The AMG GT Black Series is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter engine with 720 hp (530 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. It reaches 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds with a top speed of 202 mph (325 km / h).

The closing of orders is the first sign of the imminent end of the story for Mercedes ’non-electrified model. One thing is for sure, due to increasingly strict restrictive measures regarding the exhaust emissions of the successor to the GT model, a plug-in hybrid powertrain will be launched.

Full electrification is not planned yet, and the “open air” body version is not expected either, because Mercedes-AMG will present a new generation of SL models for open-air fans before the end of the year.

There is no doubt that AMG specialists in Affalterbach are working hard on GT’s successor which should appear in 2023.
