Porsche Panamera is the fastest car on Nurburgring Nordschleife

The premiere of the new generation of the Porsche Panamera is approaching, and the current prototype is being tested on the world’s most famous track, the Nurburgring Nordschleife, on which it set the fastest lap time in the category of cars from the E-segment.

Porsche is still keeping the technical details of this car under wraps, but what we do know so far is that it is equipped with the Active Ride suspension, which was first introduced on the Panamera earlier this year. This prototype was fitted with a new optional carbon aerodynamic body kit, which included four-way adjustable Gurney spoilers for the rear wing. Porsche experts claim that the Gurney wing reduces the lift of the front part of the car and creates downforce, but the exact data is not specified. It was mounted on specially developed 21-inch Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

The Porsche Panamera covered the 20,830 km (12,943 mi) long track in 7:24.17, which is 5.64 seconds faster than the Panamera Turbo S, and three seconds faster than the previous record holder, the Mercedes-AMG GT63 S.

“The powertrain, the aerodynamics, the chassis, the new ultra-high-performance tires from Michelin – many aspects have contributed to this best time. The new Porsche Active Ride chassis has made a particularly big contribution. The car stays parallel to the road at all times. Its cornering and body stability are on a whole new level. As a driver, this gives me a good feeling and further underlines that our development doesn’t just offer maximum day-to-day driving comfort, but also makes a real difference on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. No other Porsche offers such a wide spectrum between comfort and sportiness. The new Panamera combines the positive properties of an exclusive touring saloon with the handling of a sports car,” said Porsche test driver Lars Kern.

2024 Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and 4S E-Hybrid

In November 2023, Porsche unveiled the new generation Panamera with four e-hybrid options, based on a more powerful electric motor. Now the offer has been expanded with two more options, the Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and 4S E-Hybrid.

Both versions of the Panamera will be equipped with Matrix LED headlights, 19-inch wheels, black-painted calipers and air suspension, including the Porsche Active Suspension Management system. HD LED headlights and Porsche Active Ride suspension are optional.

The Panamer 4S E-Hybrid comes with additional equipment that includes 20-inch wheels, sports exhaust pipes and red-painted calipers (customers can choose green or black), and optional carbon-ceramic discs and 21-inch wheels.

When it comes to the powertrain, the 4S E-Hybrid is powered by a 2.9-liter bi-turbo V6 engine combined with an electric motor with a total power of 536 hp (400 kW) and 533 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque. That’s enough power to push the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 290 km/h (180 mph). This version has a range of 92 kilometers WLTP.

The Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid is powered by a 2.9-liter bi-turbo V6 engine with 470 hp (346 kW) and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque. It reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.1 seconds with a top speed of 280 km/h (174 mph). Both versions are equipped with a 25.9 kWh battery that can be fully charged in 2 hours and 39 minutes via an 11 kW charger. The battery provides a range of 96 km.

When it comes to price, the 4 E-Hybrid starts at 123,400 euros in Germany, while the more powerful 4S E-Hybrid starts at 138,200 euros.

Porsche discontinued the Panamera Sport Turismo

A few days ago, Porsche unveiled the third generation of the Panamera, which comes with new technology, the Porsche Driver Experience, first introduced in the Taycan, with the focus on the driver. However, one version of this model, the Panamera Sport Turismo, will no longer be offered. The reason? Bad sales.

Sales in the last two years have shown that buyers are not interested in this model as expected. Out of the total number of Panamera sold, less than 10 percent were Sport Turismo, which was enough for Porsche to make the decision to stop offering this model. However, to avoid possible embarrassment, Porsche stated that the standard Panamera with a practical fifth door has more than enough luggage space, and that the Sport Turismo was only a ‘design project’.

Porsche issued a statement that reads: “In China and the US – our main markets in the D-Segment – the Sport Turismo plays only a minor role. For this reason, we have decided to discontinue this model variant with the launch of the new generation.”

Given that most station wagons can be classified as crossovers, potential buyers who liked the idea of the Sport Turismo model will be able to choose the electrically powered Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo. For those who are not Porsche fans, there is the Audi RS6 as an option.
