Ford has decided to close the production cycle of its new F series, from making the car itself to producing a battery for this model. Ford and SK Innovations will join forces to build two new complexes in the states of Tennessee and Kentucky to produce cars and batteries. With more than $ 11 billion, it will be the largest investment in the company’s history.
The first complex will be built in Stanton, Tennessee, and will be called the Blue Oval City. They don’t exaggerate when they say it’s a small town – a $ 5.6 billion complex that will employ 6,000 workers. Both complexes will “change the picture of how vehicles and batteries are produced,” the company says.
$ 5.8 billion Ford will spend on building the BlueOvalSK Battery Park, which will employ 5,000 people in two battery factories. This factory will supply batteries to the new generation of Ford and Lincoln models. The annual production capacity is 86 GW batteries.
On this occasion, Ford CEO Jim Farley said: “This is our moment – our biggest investment in history – to help a better future for America.”
Thanks to U.S. government decisions, Ford will collect a maximum of $ 12,500 in incentives for electric vehicles. These include $ 7,500 of the basic incentive for electric vehicles, $ 500 for domestic battery production, and $ 4,500 of the union incentive for vehicle production in America.
Production in both complexes is expected to start in 2025, and the whole process will be carbon neutral.
