Škoda Felicia Fun is Back… but Only in Pixels

Once upon a time, Škoda made a subcompact pickup that was… well, fun. Literally. Meet the Felicia Fun, a bright yellow, slightly bonkers leisure vehicle from the mid-1990s, now resurrected as a virtual concept that’s almost too cool for reality.

The original Felicia Fun was Škoda’s cheeky nod to playfulness. Based on the 1994 Felicia hatchback—which itself was Škoda’s first real collaboration with German engineering—the Fun was a 2+2 pickup with a sliding rear partition, canvas roof, and just enough quirks to make your weekend trips to the beach feel like a mission in a retro video game. Only 4,216 were ever made, each adorned in sunshine-yellow paint with optional green or orange highlights. It had a rear spoiler, open-air seating, and a vibe that screamed “holiday, not homework.”

Fast forward nearly 30 years, and the Felicia Fun is back—though you’ll need a VR headset to enjoy it. Part of Škoda’s “Icons Get a Makeover” series, French designer Julien Petitseigneur has reimagined the Fun in the brand’s Modern Solid design language. The result? A contemporary two-seater pickup that nods to its 1990s roots while oozing a cool beach vibe.

Inside, nostalgia reigns supreme. The dashboard is checkered, screens dominate the cabin, and graphics channel the pixelated charm of old-school video games. Gone is the 2+2 layout; the modern Fun is a pure two-seater, prioritizing cargo space over rear passengers. It’s a clever experiment that reminds us Škoda can still be playful in a world dominated by SUVs, crossovers, and spreadsheets.

Of course, this Felicia Fun will never hit the roads. Škoda hasn’t made a pickup since the original left the market, and projects like their would-be Amarok never saw the light of day. That said, the company’s students have recently shown they haven’t lost their sense of adventure—turning a Superb into a one-off pickup with sliding trunk lids and bike racks earlier this year.

So, while we can’t buy one, we can enjoy a digital dive into Škoda’s whimsical past. The Felicia Fun reminds us that sometimes, automotive joy is measured not in horsepower, but in pure, pixelated playfulness.

Škoda Teases Vision O Interior: Sustainable Comfort Meets Minimalist Elegance

Škoda Auto is giving us our first taste of the future with a teaser revealing the interior of its Vision O design study. The automaker promises a blend of comfort, functionality, and sustainability, hinting at a bold new direction for its estate lineup.

The Vision O’s interior is the first glimpse of Škoda’s next-generation Modern Solid design language, emphasizing a customer-focused layout with clean, minimalist lines. According to Oliver Stefani, Škoda’s Head of Design, the goal is to “combine simplicity and sustainability with enhanced comfort.” And from the looks of it, the Vision O takes that mission seriously.

Spacious and ergonomic, the cabin is designed to put practicality first. Minimalist shapes and intuitive controls aim to create a sense of calm and safety, while the clever use of space ensures everyday usability. Unique 3D-printed headrests for both driver and front passenger add a touch of airy sophistication, enhancing comfort without cluttering the cabin.

Škoda is also making a statement with materials. Following circular economy principles, the Vision O incorporates plant-based and compostable components to reduce environmental impact. Uniform textures and finishes throughout the interior create a consistent aesthetic, while demonstrating the brand’s commitment to sustainability.

The Vision O concept is set to make its official debut at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich on September 8. For those unable to attend in person, Škoda will stream the premiere on its YouTube channel, giving fans worldwide a front-row seat to the future of its estate vehicles.

With the Vision O, Škoda appears ready to redefine what a modern, eco-conscious interior can be—proving that sustainable design doesn’t have to compromise style or comfort.

Škoda Teases Vision O Concept Ahead of September Premiere

Škoda Auto has unveiled early details of its upcoming Vision O concept car, a striking new estate model set to make its global debut at the IAA Mobility show in Munich this September. More than just a design study, the Vision O offers a glimpse into the Czech automaker’s evolving identity—fusing its 130-year heritage with forward-thinking sustainability and a refined version of its “Modern Solid” design language.

At its core, the Vision O is a celebration of Škoda’s longstanding leadership in the estate segment, while also serving as a beacon for the brand’s technological and design future. “The Škoda Vision O design study will highlight the future trajectory of estate models under the influence of new technologies, sustainability, and the deep experience of Škoda Auto in this segment,” said Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Škoda Auto. “This will be one of our most significant steps in developing and evolving our design language even further for this period of transition in the automotive industry.”

A Fresh Take on a Familiar Formula

While Škoda is no stranger to practical and popular estate cars, the Vision O represents a new chapter. It retains the essential qualities that have long defined the brand’s wagons—versatility, practicality, and understated elegance—yet reinterprets them with modern aesthetics and sustainable ambition.

From the first glance, the Vision O impresses with a sleek silhouette shaped by aerodynamic principles: a steeply raked windscreen, a gently sloping roofline, and pronounced light contours all hint at efficiency and sophistication. True to Škoda DNA, functionality remains central, but now with a renewed focus on user experience and environmental impact.

The name “Vision O” itself stems from the concept of circularity—symbolizing Škoda’s dedication to minimizing the environmental footprint of vehicle development and production. Expect an emphasis on recyclable materials, modular design, and innovative packaging that aligns with the automaker’s growing sustainability goals.

Heritage Meets Horizon

Though forward-looking in its mission, the Vision O is steeped in the company’s rich tradition. Škoda’s estate car journey began as early as the 1920s with the historic L&K 110, which offered flexible body configurations. That lineage continues through icons such as the Octavia estate—first launched in 1960 and now the brand’s most successful estate with over 3 million units produced since its modern relaunch in 1998—and the popular Superb estate, introduced in 2008.

Other notable chapters include the 1101 Tudor Station Wagon (STW) with its then-innovative folding rear seats, and the versatile 1200/1201/1202 model family. The Vision O stands as a tribute to these milestones, while pushing Škoda into a future defined by digital transformation and ecological responsibility.

The Road to Munich

Škoda’s reveal strategy for the Vision O builds anticipation for its public debut in early September 2025. Positioned at the intersection of tradition and transformation, this concept will mark one of the most pivotal design statements from the Mladá Boleslav-based manufacturer in recent memory.

Stay tuned as Škoda continues to release updates in the lead-up to Munich. If the Vision O is any indication, the future of the estate segment is not only alive and well—it’s about to get a whole lot smarter, sleeker, and more sustainable.
