New Skoda Superb

From the Czech car manufacturer Skoda, a new generation of Superb models is coming soon.

Recently, the first official sketches of the new Superb model appeared, according to which Kolesa magazine made renderings of its possible appearance. It seems like the new model could keep a proven look. The car will have a lower roofline and wide and thin taillights.

Exterior design coordinator Petr Matusinec said earlier this year that the new Superb will follow an evolutionary approach when it comes to the exterior. The first sketches showed similar proportions and design lines as with the model that is still available in salons.

European customers recognize the practicality of the Skoda models, compared to the competition. The new Superb will be slightly larger than its predecessor, to leave enough market space for the current Octavia.

Prototypes with a production body and headlights are expected soon, and when they appear on the road, we’ll probably have an even clearer picture of what to expect from the new D-segment model.

The new Skoda Superb is intended for the European market, and the arrival is expected in 2023.

The Czech Republic opposes the ICE ban

After the EU proposed a ban on the production of cars with internal combustion engines (ICE) by 2035, the first opponents of such a proposal emerged. The Czech Republic opposes the ICE ban, although most countries are announcing the dates for the introduction of a ban on the sale of new cars powered by fossil fuels.

“We will not agree with the introduction of a ban on the sale of cars on fossil fuels. That is not possible. We cannot agree with what the green fanatics are planning in the European Parliament,” Czech Prime Minister Babis told local media iDnes.

The Czech Republic is very dependent on the car industry. The car industry currently accounts for a third of the Czech economy. Škoda, Toyota and Hyundai are the largest car manufacturers in the country. With a population of 10 million and the number of cars produced, the Czech Republic is one of the largest car manufacturers in the world.

The Czech Republic will take over the presidency of the European Union from the second half of 2022, and then the ban proposal will be one of the priorities. The Czech Prime Minister added that they will support the implementation of infrastructure for electric vehicles, but will not encourage the production of electric vehicles, reports Auto News.

10th anniversary of Skoda Octavia vRS Bonneville

In 2011, Skoda produced its fastest model ever, the Octavia vRS. The goal was to build a car that would set the fastest time on Bonneville Salt Flats, which they did.

Today, 10 years later, the Octavia RS has been restored. This high-performance car attracted buyers with its practicality. It is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter six-cylinder TSI engine with 600 hp that delivers power to the front wheels. The engine is paired with a gearbox, with a limited slip differential, taken from the Superb GreenLine.

The car is equipped with a better intercooler, a larger radiator, new engine mounts and a remapped ECU. It uses 15-inch steel rims with Goodyear Eagle Dragway tires and is lowered by 3.1 inches (80 mm).

In addition to the fastest time achieved at Bonneville Salt Flats, the Octavia vRS also reached a top speed of 227 mph (366 km / h). Last year, the fastest time was set by the Speed Demon with 3,156 horsepower with a top speed of 482 mph (776 km / h).
