Xiaomi SU7 Ultra sold out for the next two years

Xiaomi’s first car SU7 has recorded outstanding sales results since its launch, and in the twelve months since its debut, 180,000 units have been sold, exceeding all expectations. Now its racing version, the SU7 Ultra, has followed the same path. According to Xiaomi‘s report, 19,000 orders have been received so far, meaning some customers will have to wait two years for their cars.

SU7 Ultra is equipped with a CATL Qilin 2.0 battery with a maximum discharge rate of 1,330 kWh and AP Racing high-performance brakes assisted by a regenerative braking system, which allows the car to stop from 300 km/h in just 15 seconds. It has touring-style bumpers, wide fenders, a large spoiler and a rear wing that creates huge downforce (up to 2,145 kilograms).

It is powered by three electric motors with a total output of 1,548 hp (1,154 kW), which is enough to push the 1,900 kg car from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 1.97 seconds, 200 km/h in 5.97 seconds and 300 km/h in 15 seconds, with a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph).

SU7 comes in three versions: SU7, SU7 Pro and SU7 Max. The standard version is powered by an electric motor with 299 hp (220 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque, and will have RWD. It will accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.28 seconds with a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph). It is equipped with a BYD Blade 73.6 kWh battery that provides a range of 700 kilometers.

SU7 Pro is equipped with an 800V architecture, and a 94.3 kWh battery that provides a range of 830 km. However, the most powerful version, Xiaomi SU7 Max, is really impressive. It is powered by two electric motors with a total output of 673 hp (495 kW) and 618 lb-ft (838 Nm) of torque, and has AWD. It reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.78 seconds with a top speed of 265 km/h (165 mph). It is equipped with the Xiami Pilot Max ADAS system, 800V architecture, and a CATI Qilin 101 kWh battery that enables a range of 800 km, or 510 km after a 15-minute charge.

Xiaomi YU7 interior photos

After the success of its first car, the SU7, in December 2024 Xiaomi announced the launch of its second all-electric car, the YU7. The car will hit the market in the summer of 2025, and before the official presentation, we know what the interior will look like.

Spy photos show a cabin made of premium materials, leather in purple and brown. The driver’s seat has an electronic footrest, which increases comfort on long trips. There is also a Panoramic Head-Up Display (PHUD) instead of a traditional dashboard, a center console with an infotainment screen, slightly smaller than the one in the SU7, with Xiaomi’s HyperOS operating system that offers easy integration with other Xiaomi devices.

In front of the driver is an elegant and functional steering wheel, covered in Alcantara and carbon fiber, which has physical buttons for easy access to key functions. There is also a red “Boost Mode” button for rapid power delivery, i.e. even better performance, and there is a button to activate advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Additional equipment includes wireless chargers, electronic door handles, a discreet LiDAR sensor mounted on the roof that clearly signals that the YU7 will offer advanced autonomous driving capabilities.

The YU7 will be 4,999 mm long, 1,996 mm wide and 1,600 mm high, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm and a weight of 2,405 kg. It is not known which battery it will use, but information suggests that it could be one of the batteries from CATL.

Xiaomi SU7 overtook Tesla Model 3 in sales in China

Since it appeared on the market in early 2024, no one could have predicted that Xiaomi’s first car would experience such success. In just eight months since its debut, Xiaomi has shipped more than 130,000 SU7s, and in December it managed to outsell the Tesla Model 3.

Xiaomi currently offers several versions of this model, and all of them achieve outstanding sales results. That’s big for a company whose primary market is China, home of the biggest EV manufacturers. So, why are buyers more likely to opt for the SU7 than the Tesla Model 3?

The biggest difference between these two models is the price. With a starting price of 26,710 euros for the Standard version, the SU7 beats Tesla’s Model 3 by almost 10 percent, as it costs at least 29,000 euros. Also, Tesla recently increased the prices of all versions of the Model 3 in China, and with the growing competition from domestic manufacturers, this represents a rather big challenge for Tesla’s dominance in the Chinese market.

Chinese manufacturers think differently. They listen more to the needs of local buyers , offering more attractive cars at competitive prices and putting a lot of pressure on international brands. This will become even more evident when the Xiaomi YU7 hits the market, which will happen in the summer of this year.
