Dacia is developing a new EV that will cost around 18,000 euros

Dacia has been the European market leader for years with its most successful and best-selling model in Europe, the Dacia Duster. However, now the Romanian brand is developing a new model that will cost around 18,000 euros.

In an interview with Autocar, Renault Group CEO De Meo said that the new car will be developed over a period of 16 months, which means it will hit the market in mid-2026. He also said that the company has reached the speed of new car development currently experienced by Chinese companies, after starting a research and development partnership with a Chinese consultancy for the Renault Twingo E-Tech project.

Some are already questioning whether the new model also means that Dacia will soon withdraw the Spring from the market, which debuted five years ago. Dacia has not yet commented on this.

What we do know about the new Dacia model is that it will have similar characteristics to other affordable electric cars currently being developed by Nissan. It will be based on a shortened version of the AmpR Small platform specially developed for electric vehicles. This platform is derived from the CMF-B platform, which is currently used by Dacia’s entire fleet with combustion engines.
