VW Up! will no longer be produced

At the 2011 International Motor Show Germany Volkswagen presented the city car VW Up!, and two years later the electric version, VW E-Up!, arrived on the market. It was offered as a 3-door and 5-door hatchback, and 12 years later, VW announced that the small city car had come to an end.

The car was produced in the plants in Bratislava (Slovakia), where they are already ready for the production of the new Passat station wagon. Only already produced versions remain in the offer for potential customers.

After the cessation of production of the Citigo (Skoda) and Mii (Seat) models, Volkswagen was left without a car in the A segment. However, the company has already announced that by the end of the decade it will offer a similar electric model, the ID.1, which will be a cheaper alternative to the previously announced ID.2 model.

Currently in the Volkswagen offer, the Polo is the smallest but also the most affordable model in the offer for European markets. There’s also the Up GTI, premiered in 2016, powered by a 1.0-liter three-cylinder TSI petrol engine with 113 hp (85 kW), which is enough to push the small city car to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8 .8 seconds with a top speed of 196 km/h (122 mph).

2024 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600

In 2021, Mercedes unveiled its first electric truck, eActros. Since then, several versions of the eActros have been introduced with different ranges, and now the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 with a range of 500 km is coming to the market.

This truck is powered by two electric motors with a total power of 536 hp, or 805 hp at full capacity. It is equipped with three lithium-iron-phosphate batteries with a total capacity of 621 kWh, enabling a range of 500 kilometers. The charging capacity is up to 400 kW, but the company plans to offer MW charging as well, however, even without this, the truck’s batteries are charged from 20 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes. Mercedes notes that about 60 percent of their customers’ long journeys are shorter than this distance. For companies that have to cover longer distances, the eActros is ideal, as it can cover well over 1,000 kilometers in one day, and drivers can recharge their batteries during breaks.

The truck has better aerodynamic solutions, undercarriage panels, air deflectors on the A pillars, matrix LED headlights, but also more space for passengers because the cabin has been extended by 80 mm.

Mercedes claims that the eActros is as durable as the Actros with an internal combustion engine and can travel up to 1.2 million kilometers in ten years. Even after that period the batteries should allow more than 80 percent range.
