1973 Porsche 911S Targa is up for auction

In 1966, Porsche presented a powerful version of the popular model 911 with the “S” designation, and by 1973, six series of this model were produced. One example, a 1973 Porsche 911S Targa is up for auction.

The 911S Targa is powered by a 2.4-liter flat-six engine with 190 hp (160 kW) and 158 lb-ft (214 Nm) of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. It reaches 60 mph in 6.5 seconds with a top speed of 144 mph (232 km/h). Ten years ago, European Motorsports of Vista, Calif., rebuilt the cylinder head, replaced the pistons, cylinders, timing chains, guide, exhaust valves and exhaust guide.

The car is finished in Silver Metallic, it is in good condition. It is equipped with a removable black roof panel, chrome driver- and passenger-side mirrors, rear bumper overriders, H4 halogen headlamps, and four-wheel discs. It is mounted on Fuchs 15” wheels wrapped in 195/60 Michelin Premier A/S tires.

Inside, the seats are upholstered in black leather that also covers the dashboard and door panels, with matching carpets. Additional equipment includes a Blaupunkt AM/FM stereo, side vent windows, carpeted floor mats, and a heater. In front of the driver is a four-spoke steering wheel behind which is a five-digit odometer showing 47,053 miles (total mileage unknown).

This Porsche 911S Targa comes with a tool kit, partial service records, a Porsche Classic Technical Certificate, and a Florida title.

The auction ends on May 11 and the current highest bid is $75,000 USD.

1987 Ferrari Testarossa is for sale

In 1984, Ferrari introduced its new sports car that was produced for 12 years, the Ferrari Testarossa. It is one of the Pininfarina-designed cars that was offered in two model revisions. Over 9k cars left the production line and one of them, the 1987 Ferrari Testarossa is for sale.

Testarossa is powered by a 4.9-liter flat-12 engine with 380 hp (279 kW) and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. It reaches 62 mph in 6.1 seconds with a top speed of 181 mph (291 km/h). Last year, an engine-out service was performed during which various fluids were changed, the alternator and fuel distributors were rebuilt, and the timing belts and tensioner bearings as well as the water pump, fuel lines, drive belts, spark plugs, and coolant hoses were replaced.

The car is finished in traditional Rosso Corssa, is in good condition and the six-digit odometer shows 9,928 miles. It is equipped with pop-up headlights, fog lights, an asymmetrical cooling duct beneath the left fog lamp, dual side mirrors, side intake strakes, black-finished rocker panels, quad exhaust outlets, and four-wheel ventilated discs. It is mounted on silver 16″ Cromodora five-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in 225/50 front and 255/50 rear Michelin Pilot Sport tires.

Inside, the seats are upholstered in Beige Connolly leather that also covers the dashboard and door panels. The three-spoke steering wheel is covered in leather. Additional equipment includes a Kenwood CD stereo, motorized seat belts, a gated shifter located on the center console, air conditioning, rear window defroster, and power windows.

The car has a clean Carfax report that shows no accidents or other damage. It comes with manufacturer’s literature and accessories, a stamped maintenance booklet, partial service records, and a clean Arizona title.

The auction ends on May 13th and the current highest bid is $80,000 USD.

Porsche has new safety technology

Not stopping at a red light is considered a serious traffic violation and can result in a collision with serious consequences, so companies are working on technology that should help solve that problem. Porsche presented the technology for this common and big problem.

According to Carbuzz, the new technology uses a camera to track the change of traffic lights, giving drivers a better chance of spotting them in time and reacting. The device can be placed above the dashboard, or in other places, and it will show red, orange (yellow) and green lights just like a traffic light. This could reduce the chances of dangerous braking in emergency situations when a driver sees a traffic light change too late, as this scenario often results in being hit by another car approaching from behind.

Porsche says the device may not be able to reproduce the exact shade, but it should be enough for the driver to easily identify the traffic light. This could be useful for drivers of cars like the Porsche 911, who sometimes find it difficult to see the traffic lights, depending on it’s position.

This technology is still in testing, but still represents progress. Today, there are various sign recognition systems, and BMW has equipped the new 7 Series with an interior light line called the Interaction Bar. One of the functions of this light line is connected to the Safe Exit function and informs passengers if it is safe to get out of the car.

When we will see this technology in use and whether it will be standard equipment of all subsequent generations of Porsche cars, remains to be seen.
