2024 Skoda Superb in hatchback and Combi body styles

Last month, Skoda published several photos of the camouflaged fourth-generation Skoda Superb, which will premiere on November 2. Now, the company has released teasers showing the final design of the car in hatchback and Combi versions.

The hatchback is 4,912 mm long, 1834 mm wide and 1481 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2841 mm, and has a lower roofline and wide and thin taillights, including a slightly longer rear suspension. Also, it has a new radiator grille while the side profile is improved with strong shoulder lines.

The interior is spacious enough to accommodate five passengers, and provides 645 liters of luggage space. It is equipped with a 13-inch infotainment screen and a 10-inch digital cockpit. The capacity of the luggage compartment is 645 liters for the hatchback, or 690 liters for the Combi variant, and 28 Simply Clever features are available that further improve practicality.

When it comes to the powertrain, there are three gasoline and two diesel options available that will meet Euro 7 emission standards, as well as a plug-in hybrid available only in the station wagon version. Gasoline engines are 1.5 mHEV with 150 hp/110 kW, and 2.0 TSI with 204 hp/150 kW and 265 hp/195 kW (AWD). The diesel options are the 2.0 TDI diesel engine with 150 hp/110 kW and 193 hp/142 kW (AWD). All engines are paired with a DSG gearbox. It should also be noted that the new Superb is built on the modular MQB platform of the Volkswagen Group.

DMV suspended license for Cruise’s self-driving cars

After a recent incident in which Cruise’s self-driving car dragged a pedestrian down the street, the DMV decided to remove the company’s vehicles from the road.

According to Cruise’s report, the driver of the Nissan struck the pedestrian and threw her into the other lane in front of the Cruise vehicle, which then hit her. Although the car tried to stop, the reaction of the car was not fast enough because everything happened very quickly. Then the car tried to move out of the lane, not knowing that it was dragging the injured pedestrian. When it stopped, the wheel of the car was on the leg of the pedestrian. An ambulance arrived and took the injured person away.

A few days later, representatives of the California Department of Motor Vehicles had a meeting with the Cruise company where the video of the accident was shown. However, the DMV accuses the company of not showing the full video, but only the part where the pedestrian was hit. The company denies this.

This is not the first time that the vehicles of this company have been charged. Previously, these vehicles would stop in traffic when they could not safely pass into the other lane. It is assumed that this time too the software did not understand that the car was pulling the pedestrian.

Self-driving cars appeared in 1995 when Navlab5, which was the fifth of ten cars that were retrofitted by The Robotics Institute, was successfully piloted from Pittsburgh to San Diego. Today we have about 30 companies that use self-driving cars, and all of them are working on improving the technology to make vehicles safer.

Honda Prelude Concept

Last month, rumors surfaced of the return of Honda’s first two-door coupe with a moonroof, the Honda Prelude. Now the Japanese automaker has confirmed the rumors by announcing the revival of this model called the Prelude Concept.

The new Prelude has a new design and, except for the name, almost no similarities with its predecessor. The front part is reminiscent of sports cars, thin headlights connected with an LED bar, black side mirrors, a roof line that descends towards the rear part is reminiscent of the design of the Porsche 911 and Hyundai Ioniq 6. The rear part has a black lip spoiler, a black bumper and an LED bar which extends along the entire length.

Honda is still hiding a lot when it comes to the Prelude Concept. Neither the performance of the car nor when it will be premiered are known. What is known so far is that the car is still in the development phase and that it will be fully electric.

“The word “Prelude” means an ‘introductory or preceding performance’. This model will become the prelude for our future models which will inherit the ‘joy of driving’ into the full-fledged electrified future and embody Honda’s unalterable sports mindset,” said CEO Toshihiro Mibe.

Honda has already announced that the company’s long-term plan is to produce a Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and Fuel Cell Vehicles (FCV) lineup by 2040. That may be too late considering that competitors have announced a transition to all-electric cars by 2030.
