IONITY is increasing the number of charging stations in Europe

The increase in sales of electric vehicles affects the increase in the number of charging stations. Thus, in the next three years, IONITY (the largest European network of charging stations) is expected to increase its capacity to over a thousand charging stations.

Porsche AG Executive Board Chairman Oliver Blume said: “We are seeing a clear increase in electromobility and the associated high-performance charging infrastructure. At Porsche, 50 per cent of the cars delivered worldwide by 2025 are expected to be partially or fully electric – more than 80 per cent by the end of the decade. By investing in the IONITY joint venture, we are sending an important signal to customers that elevates the comfort and convenience of traveling in an electric vehicle even further. ”

Currently, IONITY has 1,500 charging points, and the intention is to increase that number to 7,000 charging points. They will be built next to larger cities, not just on European highways, and each station will have 12 charging points.

This will have a special significance for owners of Porsche EV models (such as the Porsche Taycan). Through 800-volt technology, they will be able to charge their cars with full potential up to 270 kW. Currently, Porsche through its Porsche Charging Service offers its customers 200,000 charging points of which 6,500 are with a charging capacity of more than 50 kW DC.

IONITY is owned by several major global car manufacturers such as Volkswagen Group, Hyundai Motors, Mercedes-Benz AG, BMW Group and Ford Motor Company.

The Golf GTI Clubsport 45 was tested at the Nurburgring

With the special Golf GTI Clubsport 45, Volkswagen recently marked 45 years since the introduction of the first Golf GTI (Grand Touring Injection).

The Clubsport 45 is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 297 hp (218 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. Power transmission to the front wheels is via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It reaches 62 mph in 5.6 seconds with a top speed of 166 mph (267 km / h). It rides on 19-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

The German magazine Sport Auto has decided that the most powerful Golf GTI so far will face the famous German track Nürburgring Nordschleife. Test driver Christian Gebhardt completed a lap in eight minutes and 2.66 seconds. That’s a slightly better time than the seventh-generation Golf GTI TCR (08: 04.92).

The Golf GTI Clubsport 45 was significantly slower than the Renault Megan RS Trophy-R whose best time of seven minutes and 55.12 seconds was achieved with the same driver.

The new Honda Civic Type R will soon be tested at the Nürburgring. Whether it will return the title of the fastest with front-wheel drive to Japan remains to be seen.

VW Taigo for 2022

A small crossover is coming from Wolfsburg, as Volkswagen has announced the arrival of the Nivus on the European market with a different name. It is a VW Taigo that should fill the gap in VW’s offer of small crossovers. In addition to Europe, it is planned to be sold in Turkey and Africa.

The VW Taigo is a more elegant alternative to the T-Cross. The design is very reminiscent of the Nivus with a few interior details from the new Tiguans and Arteons, such as the new climate control settings introduced earlier this year.

With a length of 4.26 meters and a wheelbase of 2,566 mm, the Taigo is longer than the T-Cross model, regardless of the version. With a height (58.6 inches / 1.49 meters) and width (69 inches / 1.75 meters), it is longer, narrower and lower than the T-Roc model.

For the small crossover, VW has stored extremely well equipment such as matrix LED headlights, partial autonomous driving, 18-inch wheels, 9.2-inch touch screen, driver assistance features, and there is quite enough 438 liters of luggage space.

The Tiago comes with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine with 95 hp or 110 hp, and a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 150 hp. The engine is paired with a five-speed or six-speed manual transmission and has front-wheel drive. There is also a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
