1983 VW Golf GTI with 400 HP

Among the many modified cars, YouTube channel AutoTopNL posted a video of a 1983 VW Golf GTI powered by a modified engine from a 2010 Golf R with 400 hp.

This old GTI has so much power and such short gears that first and second gears are almost useless. Only in the third gear does the power become useful, but even then the driver must keep a tight grip on the car and constantly make corrections on the steering wheel. Also, the hood cover is not strong enough to withstand high speeds, so during violent acceleration it partially separates, so the driver has to stop to close it. The side mirrors are not designed for high speed, so they “close”.

If you’re wondering what kind of engine is under the hood, well, this Golf GTI is powered by a modified 2.0L four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine with 400 hp (294 kW), and it provides an impressive driving experience. The original GTI was powered by a 1.8L four-cylinder petrol engine, before it was removed.

The car was tested on the autobahn, and after several attempts to reach top speed, the Golf GTI’s speedometer stopped at what appears to be its maximum of 239 km/h (149 mph).

Volkswagen announces 10 new cheap electric models

A few days ago, Volkswagen announced long-term plans that include the production of 10 all-electric cars for customers on a tighter budget.

According to VW, it will be a compact electric car available to everyone, something like the VW Golf, which is still a popular car. It is said to be built on the new MEB Small platform for electric cars. The same Volkswagen Group platform will be used by models such as the Cupra Urban Rebel.

“With the ID.2all concept in the compact car segment, Volkswagen announces the first electric VW for everyone. The starting price will be lower than 25,000 euros. Electric cars will then be available in almost every segment, and the Volkswagen brand will offer a broader e-portfolio in comparison with the competition, from the basic electric vehicle to the ID.7 electric sedan,” announced Volkswagen.

VW plans to invest 460 million euros in its Wolfsburg plant to prepare for the realization of its plan, which includes the second generation of the ID.3 model, the ID.3 GTX, the Buzz model with a longer wheelbase and the flagship electric sedan ID.7.

When it comes to other brands from the VW group, the Cupra is planned for 2025, a new fully electric car with 235 hp (173 kW) and a range of 440 km. It will hit 62 mph in 6.9 seconds.

VW Golf A59 is getting back

At the recently held SEMA Show, Volkswagen announced several concepts, one of which is the Golf A59 prototype. The concept was developed at the end of the last century under the name Golf Mk3 Rallye as part of a feasibility study for the company’s possible entry into the World Rally Championship (WRC).

In 1993, Schmidt Motorsport from Cadolzburg created the Golf Mk3 Rallye, and the reason for this was the need for a road model due to the FIA rule for the WRC in 1994, which is the production of 2,500 homologation units of the rally car. Unfortunately, it never went into mass production, and only two examples were produced, of which this one is in driving condition.

The car is equipped with a unique lightweight carbon/Kevlar body kit that includes additional intakes on the front bumper, hood vents made of GRP, significantly wider WRC-inspired fenders, a large spoiler and a sports bumper that has room for four exhaust pipes, but two are still set. There is also a large VW logo on the tailgate, plastic side windows and a rear windscreen. Inside, it is equipped with Recaro A8 seats, a three-spoke steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster, additional controls and a roll cage.

The prototype received Bilstein shock absorbers in the front with a longer stroke and wider shoulders, while the rear is multilink with Bilstein struts. There’s also a set of 16-inch Speedline SL817 wheels wrapped in 225/45 R16 tires.

When it comes to the powertrain, the Golf Mk3 Rallye is powered by a 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder engine with 271 hp (199 kW) and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) of torque. Power is sent to both axles via a 6-speed manual transmission with a rear limited-slip differential. The A59 reached a top speed of 168 mph (270 kph) and was the fastest Golf at the time.
