Chris Bangle is the new Xiaomi car designer

After releasing photos of its first car, the Xiaomi SU7, the Chinese company has shown that it has serious plans with future projects. A new member of their design team is designer Chris Bangle.

Chris Bangle is a former employee of BMW, and his main task will be the creation of new Xiaomi cars, with which the company tries to find its place on the domestic and global market as a new and reliable manufacturer of electric cars.

Before Bangle, Xiaomi brought Li Tianyuan to its team who also has experience working on BMW cars. He was the leader of the team that designed the BMW iX.

Xiaomi SU7 should arrive on the market soon, after the company receives approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The first photos of the blue Xiaomi SU7 were published on the Weibo social network.

The car is 4,997 mm long, 1,963 mm wide with a height of 1,440/1,455 mm, and a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. When it comes to the powertrain, there is no information for now, but some information says that customers will choose between two batteries with a capacity of 73.6 and 101 kWh, and that it will have a range of 800 km. Also, it will support 800V architecture for fast chargers up to 350 kW.

Xiaomi electric car is coming soon

The production of electric cars is expanding, so it is a magnet for all companies, even those that have never been closely related to the automotive industry. One of them is Xiaomi, which last year announced its intention to enter the automotive market with its first electric car.

Currently, Xiaomi produces 50 prototypes per week at its factory in Beijing. Mass production of the car will start once the company receives approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), which is expected by the end of the year. The current capacity of the factory where Xiaomi will manufacture cars is 150,000 vehicles per year, while the full capacity is 300,000 vehicles.

The technological giant is busy preparing for the start of production, and a certain number of people are already employed. The HR department is working full steam to hire 100 new workers in the production sector, and some sources claim that some of the applicants, who worked at Mercedes and Tesla, do not meet Xiaomi’s high criteria. Mass employment is expected at the end of this year or at the beginning of 2024.

Recently, photos of Xiaomi’s first car, the MS11, have surfaced, and the car is designed in the form of a sedan. Little is known about this car so far, but some information says that it could be equipped with a 101 kWh battery and have a range of 800 km. It will support 800V architecture for fast chargers up to 350 kW.

Xiaomi will produce electric cars

The growth in demand for electric cars is increasingly attracting companies that have never been involved in this type of business. After Apple and Huawei, another company is entering the world of electric car manufacturers. It is the Chinese company Xiaomi that will produce electric cars in its own plant.

According to a Chinese media report, the first Xiaomi electric car could hit the market soon. Engineering work has been completed, while vehicle software integration is progressing rapidly and will be completed by mid-October. Although there were rumors that the car would be manufactured at the BAIC Group facility and that the Chinese company would work with OEMs, this is not going to happen.

Xiaomi plans to invest 10 billion dollars in this project over the next ten years, so there will be no shortage of money for the factory. The new factory will have a capacity of 300,000 vehicles per year. In the first year, it is planned to produce half of the capacity, and the goal is for the first cars to reach their owners in 2024.

Last year, the company signed a contract to build a headquarters and research and development center in Yizhuang. According to some information, a plant for future cars will also be built there.
