In November 2024, Toyota announced that it is working on the return of a car that was discontinued almost two decades ago, the Toyota Celica. Although there is not much information about the car, rumor has it that it will be produced under the name GR Celica.
Toyota Celica was produced from 1970 to 2006 in seven generations. During 36 years, over 4 million units left the production line in various four-cylinder engines, and body styles included convertibles, liftbacks, and notchback coupés.
“We are working on the Celica. There are many people in the company who are eagerly awaiting the Toyota Celica. I wonder if it is okay to say this in public, but we are building a new Toyota Celica,” said Toyota VP Yuki Nakajima.
There is currently a lot of speculation about the new Celica. Some rumors say that it could be powered by a new turbocharged 2.0-L 4-cylinder engine with 406 hp, and that it will have all-wheel drive. However, some have hinted that it could be all-electric. This is all unofficial, and Toyota will release more information soon.
