Volvo is shutting down station wagons

In 1953, Volvo started its story with station wagons, and the first model with this body type was the Duett. Over the course of seven decades, it was one of the few manufacturers to remain faithful to this type of vehicle. However, the Swedish manufacturer decided to discontinue this type of vehicle.

In an interview with Autoexpress, Volvo CEO Jim Rowan said that the market had changed and that the future of the brand without a station wagon was realistic. “We have to make a choice. Instead of launching a new V90, for example, is it better to position that car in a slightly different way? So, we have Black Editions, we have Cross Country editions – now we have different editions of the same basic car. It is much, much cheaper and more profitable for us to generate more sales using the same platform through different forms,” Rowan said.

In 2016, Volvo hired Swedish footballer Zlatan Ibrahimović, who was saying goodbye to the national team at the time, to be part of an advertisement in which the manufacturer announced the arrival of the new V90 model. Unfortunately, it was also their last station wagon, which will now be replaced by SUVs.

The new Toyota electric SUV will be launched on March 12

Toyota will launch its new electric car on March 12. Although the name is not yet known, a teaser suggests that it could be the production version of the bZ Compact SUV.

Toyota has not released any details about this car, but some information suggests that the electric crossover will be 4.54 meters long and 1.56 meters high, which means that it will be smaller than the Toyota bZ4X. Toyota has promised that the new car will be spacious, comfortable and emotionally appealing.

When it comes to the powertrain, it is speculated that it will have similar specifications to the recently introduced Urban Cruiser EV. This means a front-wheel drive version with 144 or 174 hp (depending on the battery), and an all-wheel drive version with 184 hp. Speaking of batteries, there are two battery packs, 49 and 61 kWh.

Maserati canceled MC20 Folgore

Maserati is going through a very difficult period, perhaps the most difficult in the company’s history, and the latest information that the brand is shutting down the MC20 Folgore shows that the way out of the crisis is still far away.

The brand is currently at a turning point and is trying to find a solution, and one of the first moves they intend to make is a return to combustion engines. “Analysis of the market for the super sports car segment, and in particular the MC20 customers, has shown that they want to drive cars with powerful internal combustion engines. These customers are not ready to switch to electric vehicles in the near future,” said former CEO Davide Grasson.

According to Autocar, Maserati is planning to refresh the MC20 model, and the inspiration should be the MC20 GT2 Stradale. It will be powered by an improved 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo engine with 640 hp and 720 Nm of torque.

The MC20 Folgore is not the first Maserati sports car to become a thing of the past. A similar situation previously occurred with the Alfieri concept presented in 2014, which was supposed to enter production in 2018, but it never happened.

All of this suggests that Maserati’s electric future is uncertain.
