27-L Rolls-Royce V12 Merlin engine is up for auction

In 1904, the British luxury car company, Rolls-Royce Limited, was founded, and at the beginning of the First World War, it started manufacturing aero-engines. The development of aviation in that period gave the company the opportunity to continue producing aero engines even after the end of the Great War. During WWII their engines, such as this 27-L V12 Rolls-Royce Merlin, powered some of the most famous aircraft including the Spitfire, the Hurricane and the Mustang. Now, it is for sale.

These engines were also produced in the USA under license, and more than 58,000 of them came out of the plants of Packard Motor Car Company and Continental Aircraft. Many were exported to England, while the rest were used for versions of the American Curtiss P-40 aircraft and most versions of the P51 aircraft. This version of the Packard Merlin engine powered various models of the North American F-6 and P-51 Mustang aircraft.

The Rolls-Royce Merlin engine left the Hillingdon factory near Glasgow in 1949 and was reassembled only a few years ago so it is in excellent condition. With around 1,800 hp (1,300 kW), it was developed for high-altitude operations where engine noise was not important. It was reliable so it was also used in armored tanks and MTB patrol boats.

It will be auctioned on Saturday 24th August, 2024 at 11.00am BST at The Wing, Silverstone Circuit, NN12 8TN. Estimated value of the engine is £40,000 – £50,000.

1985 Mercedes-Benz 500SEC AMG 6.0 is up for auction

57 years ago, an engineering firm specializing in performance improvements for Mercedes-Benz vehicles, AMG (Aufrecht, Melcher, Großaspach), was founded. It worked independently for years, before becoming part of Mercedes-Benz AG in 2005. One of the cars upgraded by AMG during the independence period, the 1985 Mercedes-Benz 500SEC AMG 6.0, is up for auction.

This European-spec Coupe version (C126) was produced between 1981 and 1991 and finished in Black over Anthracite interior. It is equipped with a limited-slip differential, fog lights, a sunroof, heated and power-adjustable front seats, air conditioning, and cruise control. AMG modified the car by adding a Sebring-AMG exhaust system, 17-inch OZ Racing wheels, 4-piston front brake calipers, a body kit, wood interior trim, a 4-spoke steering wheel, and a 300-kph speedometer. The odometer reads 82,171 km (~51,100 miles).

While customers in America could only choose the 380 model with 155 hp, Europeans could order the 500 variant that offered a more powerful engine. This Mercedes AMG left the factory with a 5.0-liter SOHC M117 V8 engine (231 hp and 405 Nm), but AMG decided to replace it with a modified 6.0-liter V8 engine that delivered 330 hp (246 kW) and 387 lb-ft (525 Nm) of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Carfax history report starts in 2023 and lists no accidents since. the car comes with 1 key, owner’s manual, AMG documentation, service records and warning triangle.

The auction ends on August 12th and the highest bid at the time of writing was $85,000 USD.

1996 Porsche 911 Speedster by Gunther Werks is up for auction

The American company Gunther Wereks, specialized in Porsche cars, produced some of the best and rarest cars based on the Porsche 993. This 1996 Porsche 911 Speedster was produced in only 25 examples, and one of them is for sale.

This 911 Speedster is one of the most comprehensively enhanced Porsche 911s ever built. It is finished in Aston Martin Skyfall Silver and is in excellent condition. It is equipped with DGR computer-controlled active coilover suspension, custom suspension arms with revised geometry, uprated anti-roll bars, lightweight uprights, a front strut brace, a cutting-edge hydraulic front lift system, a windshield and carbon fiber hood with aluminum reinforcements. , Salsa Red GT brake calipers, nickel-finished Billet mirrors, matte Metallic Silver and satin Carmine Red striping, and, chiefly, its optional carbon magnesium Fuchs-style wheels with a Graphite finish. The chassis is reinforced with a new cage and hoop that are seamlessly integrated as a support for the tonneau cover, which has contributed to increased passenger safety.

In the cabin, a blend of exposed carbon fiber, sumptuous Mercedes-Benz Classic Red Nappa leather, and contrasting Dunkegrau Alcantara coating every conceivable surface right down to the cupholders. The odometer shows only 93 miles (∼150 km).

The Gunther Werks 911 Speedster is powered by a 4.0-L 6-cylinder engine with 430 hp (321 kW) and 330 lb-ft (447 Nm) of torque. That’s enough power to push the car from 0 to 100 km/h in less than four seconds.

The car comes with a specification sheet, car cover, books, and tools. The auction will take place August 15 – 17, 2024 in Monterey, and the estimated value of the car is $975,000 – $1,100,000 USD.
